FGR Appoint Woman To Run Man's Academy

Hannah Dingley has become the first woman to run a men's academy in English football following her appointment by Forest Green Rovers. She was previously working for Burton Albion's academy as head of coaching. Dingley said: "I'm really excited. It's the perfect blank canvas. We have a first-team manager who really wants young players in his squad and plays the game with a distinctive style. We have some great talent in the academy and my focus will be on doing everything we can do give them the best chance at first-team football."

Bury Get 12 Point Deduction

The English Football League are set to deduct 12 points from Bury after their CVA was approved by creditors. The League One side's owner Steve Dale put forward the proposal last month to repay all football creditors in full, while unsecured creditors, such as HMRC, are to be paid 25% of the money they are owed. The parties involved have accepted the deal, which qualifies as an insolvency event under EFL rules and so Bury will suffer a 12 point deduction but will avoid administration or liquidation.

Swans COO Heads To DC

The chief operating officer of Swansea City, Chris Pearlman, has left the club to join the Swans' owners Major League Soccer club DC United. At least there he will not be able to oversee a relegation and descent into financial ignominy as happened at the Welsh side after his appointment in October 2016. Pearlman said: "I will be leaving Swansea with a heavy heart. I have loved my time here and I would like to thank everyone, especially the people of Swansea, for welcoming me and my family into the community with open arms. It is a fantastic football club with phenomenal staff and supporters who live and breathe Swansea City."

Gers Allow Candeias To Talk Turkey

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has admitted that the club have allowed winger Daniel Candeias to talk to a Turkish side after the player asked for the move. Gerrard said: "I had a conversation on Wednesday with Daniel and he said he wanted to go and speak to a team in Turkey. We've had an approach and we had a real adult conversation. I said I wanted him to stay and fight for the shirt and be part of the squad but he said he wants to go and explore the situation in Turkey so we reluctantly but respectfully granted him permission. He's a good man and been a good servant so we'll see how that one develops. I have to respect Daniel and keep a lot of the conversation private but it boils down to him wanting to be a regular starter."

Mikel Retires From Internationals

Nigeria will need a new captain after Jon Obi Mikel has confirmed his retirement from international football at the age of 32. The midfielder joined Trabzonspor in the summer and had said prior to this summer's AFCON tournament that he would retire once it had finished. Mikel said on social media: "At the age of 32 it's time for me to retire from the national team and let the youth take over, who've done an amazing job securing a bronze medal at AFCON 2019. Egypt is a country where I've started and have finished my national career. In 2006 I played my first official championship for my country. The 2019 African Cup of Nations marks my last championship for national team with Super Eagles. My national career started in 2003 under 17 World Cup and I'm grateful for the national team for placing me on the world arena and giving me an opportunity to show my skill and have an incredible National and International career. Thank you to all my Nigerian supporters and to my country for all the trust, support and love you've shown me over the past 15 years."

CAF VP Dismissed

A vice-president of the Confederation of African Football Amaju Pinnick has been dismissed from the role by Ahmad Ahmad, a man currently under investigation for numerous matters. Pinnick was replaced by South Africa's Danny Jordaan.

Friendly Sending Off Results In League Ban

Celtic's Jozo Simunovic has been given a two-match SPFL ban after being sent off during a pre-season (not-so?) friendly with St Gallen. The Croatian was sent off after a consultation with VAR.

Studger Gets Ban

Free agent striker Daniel Sturridge is banned from playing football for 6 weeks, four of them suspended, plus fined £75,000 for breaching betting rules, meaning he is unable to play this month, if he were to find a team in that time. Sturridge said: "I am pleased that nine of the 11 charges were dismissed and that the panel found me to be an honest and credible witness, and that my actions on one particularly difficult day were out of character. The case was heard over seven days by a distinguished panel, which resulted in a lengthy and carefully considered decision, and followed an extensive investigation by the FA. It is therefore extremely disappointing to hear that the FA will be appealing this decision. I will continue to defend the case and the appeal. I am training hard and fully focused on the upcoming football season." The FA has stated they will be appealing against the dismissal of 9 of the charges against Sturridge and are seeking a 6 month ban for the former England forward.

Hope Springs Eternal

Midfielder Harry Winks has claimed it is only a matter of time before Tottenham Hotspur win a trophy to break manager Mauricio Pochettino's duck. Spurs, who have not won a trophy since the 2008 League Cup, have been managed by Pochettino since 2014, but always fallen short when it mattered but Winks believes that will change soon. Winks said: "As long as we keep believing in what we have to do... I'm sure [trophies] are round the corner. Everybody is ambitious in the squad. Of course there comes a time when players want to start winning trophies. But there is a bigger picture at Tottenham. You can feel the family atmosphere the manager has created. Everyone gets on really well. There are no big egos - no-one gets on better with one person than anyone else. We obviously have incredible talent in the squad but when you have that, mixed with humble attitudes and players who want to improve, that can only breed success. The manager brought me through at the age of 17 to where I am today. It has been an incredible journey and one I want to stay on."
