Review of the Day

Contracts

Heart of Midlothian teenager Andy Irving has a new 2 year deal.

Transfers

Queens Park Rangers have signed Marc Pugh on a free transfer from Bournemouth. Also joining QPR is former Chelsea defender Todd Kane on a free.

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim have paid £9m for Danish attacker Robert Skov from FC Copenhagen.

Young Real Madrid centre back Javi Sanchez has joined Real Valladolid on loan. Another young Spanish centre back has left Real Madrid on loan, this time Jesus Vallejo who has joined Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Clermont Foot have taken French keeper Maxime Dupe on loan from Nantes.

Saint-Etienne have paid over £3m for Algerian attacking midfielder Ryad Boudebouz from Real Betis.

West Bromwich Albion have paid just under £3m for Romaine Sawyers from Brentford.

Sebastian Rode has joined Eintracht Frankfurt from Borussia Dortmund for around £3.6m.

Inter Miami have sent their two new Argentine signings back on loan. Julian Carranza has returned to Banfield after Miami paid nearly £5m for him. Matias Pellegrini has gone back to Estudiantes after a £7.3m fee was paid.

Former national amateur boxing champion Matty Stevens has signed for Forest Green Rovers for an undisclosed fee from Peterborough United.

Rhys Browne has left Yeovil Town to sign for Port Vale on a free transfer.

Former Manchester United youngster Chris Eagles has signed for Oldham Athletic.

Regan Slater has signed for Scunthorpe United on a season long loan deal from Sheffield United.

This is a surprise, I am mentioning former Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen and it is not in the injury round-up section! Instead it is because the 33 year old Belgian has joined Japanese side Vissel Kobe on a free transfer from Barcelona. He will be playing alongside Lukas Podolski, David Villa and Andres Iniesta there.

Another youngster from an English youth academy has headed across to the Bundesliga to get a chance of first team football. This time it is Arsenal winger Xavier Amaechi who is joining Hamburg for a fee of over £2m, despite Arsenal offering him a new deal.

Injury Round-Up

Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross has become the latest player struck down by ankle injury during the pre-season friendlies. The 31 year old was hurt making a clearance against Leicester City and the Potters are now waiting to find out how serious the injury is. Manager Nathan Jones said: "There's nothing official yet so we won't speculate. We think it's something reasonably serious - how serious, we don't know. He's club captain, done superbly well for me in pre-season and ironically he's come back as fit as anyone has seen him. It's sad but that's the way things go. Hopefully it's not as bad as we first think and he'll be back sooner rather than later."

AC Milan's new signing Theo Hernandez is yet another to be ruled out with an ankle injury according to a Milan statement: "Today, Milan defender Theo Hernández underwent a scan to his right ankle following the injury suffered during the match against FC Bayern in the ICC tournament. The examinations have revealed a capsule-ligament injury. The player will undergo more tests in two weeks' time."

USA international Tyler Adams might also miss the start of the season, but, for a change, it is not an ankle injury. The 20 year old has a groin problem according to RB Leipzig head coach Julian Nagelsmann: "Our medical department are doing everything they can, but Tyler's injury is complicated. Suddenly you're pain-free and expect to get involved again, but that is misleading."

Cherries Agree Billing Fee

Bournemouth have agreed a fee to buy Danish midfielder Philip Billing from Huddersfield Town. The 23 year old was one of the Terriers few bright spots last season as they failed to survive in the Premier League.

Pep Calls Foden Most, Most, Most Talented Player

Laughably Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has come out with the line that 19 year old Phil Foden "is the most, most, most talented player I have ever seen". Obviously he kepts his eyes shut when working with Ronaldinho, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi then! Hyperbole (or should that be utter bull****) at its finest as Pep said: "He has everything to become one of the best players. I have said many times in press conferences, but maybe not said it in front of him, Phil is the most, most, most talented player I have ever seen in my career as a manager. His only problem is sometimes his manager doesn't put him in the starting XI. Hopefully in the future that can improve." Is anyone else thinking that the old joke, I told you a million times to stop exaggerating, could apply here? Foden is good, but talent wise he is not on the level of those 3 I mentioned. Or close to it.

La Liga Drop Fridays And Mondays

The Spanish FA (RFEF) have blocked La Liga matches from taking place on Mondays and Fridays without special permission from the RFEF. Athletic Bilbao were due to host Barcelona in the season opener on Friday 16th August, but the RFEF have rescheduled the fixture. The RFEF said: "Spanish football fans do not want games on these days. Especially on Mondays, it is very difficult for fans to enjoy games." The move has not gone down well with rent-a-quote La Liga president Javier Tebas who said: "With this illegal conduct RFEF officials are generating confusion in the national and international broadcast space, which accounts for 2bn euros in annual rights income for La Liga. These officials have no idea of the consequences of their irresponsible acts. This has no purpose, nothing will change, this only creates confusion, which is the only thing they know how to do." La Liga have said they will ignore the RFEF's schedule change and continue with the one they set out initially.

Kruse Claims He Rejected Liverpool Offer

New Fenerbahce signing Max Kruse has claimed he rejected a number of offers in order to choose the Turkish side, including one from European champions Liverpool. Kruse left Werder Bremen on a free transfer and told Bein Sports: "During the transfer period, I've received lots of offers and one of them was Liverpool. But I decided to join Fenerbahce because I believe I will be very happy there. I spoke with a lot of players during that period and I am happy about my decision."
