Injury Round-Up
Marlon Pack, who only joined Cardiff City from Bristol City on transfer deadline day, could be out for up to 2 months with a leg injury. Bluebirds' manager Neil Warnock said: "It looks bad to me, I think the physio said that it could be a couple of months, which will be a nightmare for us. You do begin to think your luck is running out as a manager, I must admit, because with Pack on Sunday we looked so good - composed and in charge - and then one mistake when he's come off and we've collapsed. If I was a young manager I would probably have panicked a little bit after Sunday, but I don't think it's time to panic. We said a few words on Tuesday and then we trained today - the first time we've ever trained on a match day. But I thought it was important to have a long meeting yesterday and say a few truths, and to get a response like that [against Huddersfield] I'm really pleased."
Trotters Pair Quit
Bolton Wanderers manager Phil Parkinson and his assistant Steve Parkin have quit the beleagured League One club, but Bolton has yet to accept their resignations. The club stated: "The club has received the notice of resignation from Phil Parkinson and Steve Parkin and the matter is being considered." Parkinson had become increasingly frustrated by the club's takeover being held up.
Hughes' Assistant Appointed At Reading
Mark Bowen, who has spent almost the entirety of his coaching career as Mark Hughes' assistant, has been appointed to the role of sporting director at Reading. Bowen had been brought in towards the end of last season as a consultant, which has led to the long term role.
Dons Deny Lazio Contact
Following a report in Italy, which claimed that Lazio had shown interest in Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove, the Dons have denied receiving any contact from the Italians. 22 year old Cosgrove has scored 9 goals in 8 matches this season, following a 21 goal season last term.
FIFA Install New EFA Board
After the board of the Egyptian FA (EFA) quit due to Egypt's poor performance in the Africa Cup of Nations, held in Egypt this summer, FIFA have installed a new committee to run the game in the North African country. The board had faced heavy criticism before the tournament after a long-running series of disputes with star player Mohamed Salah, mainly centering around image rights and their backtracking on a decision to boot Amr Warda from the AFCON squad for disciplinary reasons.
Dummett Unavailable For Wales
Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett has ruled himself out of contention for Wales' Euro 2020 qualifier next month, telling manager Ryan Giggs that he wanted to concentrate on his club career. The 27 year old has 5 caps for his country and had previously stepped away from the international game in 2017. Giggs, on being asked if it was the end of Dummett's international career said: "I think that will be it. He just wants to concentrate on club football. I've got to respect that and I have players in that position who are playing so I'm not fussed about that. He felt that he's had a lot of hamstring problems earlier this season and he wanted to make sure he is fit for Newcastle. I've got centre-halves who are playing. I was considering him for that centre-half position but it's not a problem. Obviously he is playing in the Premier League, he's a good defender but I've got options." Not fussed. Not a problem. It's little wonder Dummett stepped away, he is not exactly being made to feel wanted by Giggs!
Another African Nation Parts Company With Their Head Coach
It seems like coaching a national team in the AFCON tournament is bad for your career as yet another head coach from the tournament bites the dust. This time it is French coach Alain Giresse who has left Tunisia by mutual consent despite leading the team to a 4th place finish.
Nice Takeover Given The Green Light
French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice have been given the ok by the French competition authority to finalise their takeover by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe told BBC Sport: "We've dipped our toe in the water with football, it's a very different sport. It's quite a complicated sport and world, so we're in the process of learning. We haven't got to where we've got to in our chemicals and business world by being rash and impetuous and stupid, obviously. We're not in a desperate hurry to get to the end game in football." Ratcliffe already owns Lausanne in the Swiss second tier, which he bought 2 years ago.
Juve 'Greed Is Good'
Juventus have already caused upset amongst their fans by allowing the design of their iconic black and white striped shirts to be changed in order to sell more kits in the USA. Now they have called on Serie A to schedule more matches to kick off early in order to increase revenue in Asia. Juventus chief revenue officer Giorgio Ricci said: "We have to find the right balance between domestic and global audiences. It is not just about the broadcasting times, it is also about the rights distribution and who is showing the games. In that sense, the difference between the Premier League and Serie A is huge. This is a very old story and one of the more frequent reasons for fights with the league."
