Review of the Day

Contracts

Lazio forward Joaquin Correa has extended his deal with the Serie A club until 2024.

Major League Soccer's FC Cincinnati has given new deals to a pair of 27 year olds which run until the end of 2020. American duo of Nick Hagglund, a defender, and Spencer Richey, a goalkeeper, are tied down for the next MLS season.

Transfers

Veteran former Republic of Ireland international defender Paul McShane has signed for League One's Rochdale on a short-term deal until January. The 33 year old was released by Reading in the summer.

Injury Round-Up

Cambridge United's veteran striker Jabo Ibehre is set to be missing for a lengthy period after a "major" knee operation. Ibehre had a cut on his knee which became infected. Gary Deegan is also ruled out for a lon gtime with blood poisoning. U's manager Colin Calderwood revealed: "Both are extremely serious and been well dealt with by the medical staff, but unfortunately it doesn't matter how good that is." Calderwood also explained he expected Ibehre to be ruled out for months.

Exeter City goalkeeper Lewis Ward has been ruled out until after Christmas after breaking an arm in the 1-1 draw with Crewe Alexandra at the weekend. The 22 year old played on, despite the injury, for the final minutes of the game. Exeter boss Matt Taylor said: "He did it in the 85th minute of the game and played the last 10 or 12 minutes with a broken arm so it shows his commitment. He came and punched a ball, he just thought it was a strong bang. But when the egg arrived on his arm and he got in the changing room, when the adrenaline wore off, he was in a lot of pain." The Grecians are now looking to sign a goalkeeper on a short term deal to cover until January.

Just a day after he signed a new contract with the Bees, Brentford have revealed that their former Liverpool winger Sergi Canos has suffered a serious knee injury in the weekend's defeat against Nottingham Forest. Head coach Thomas Frank said: "The injury is extremely sad news for Sergi, but I know he will have a bright future. Everyone at the club will be doing everything they can to get him back as soon as he is ready and able."

England have lost Leicester City midfielder James Maddison to illness. The 22 year old, who has yet to make his full England debut, will not be replaced in the squad.

Barnsley Fans Hold Leaving Do For Stendel

Despite a 10 game run without a win which led to his sacking, former Barnsley manager Daniel Stendel was treated to a farewell party by fans of the club. Stendel had won promotion from League One in his first season, but, with the team struggling in the Championship in his second, he was sacked. Fans were so disappointed at losing a man with 31 wins in 66 games, the 3rd highest win ratio in the club's history, for a permanent manager, that they invited him and his assistant Chris Stern to a party at a local town centre pub. Stendel said: "It's been a very emotional time for me. What a lot of people have said to me is this - 'once a red, always a red'."

Ugandan FA Chief Suspended

The president of the Ugandan FA (FUFA) Moses Magogo has been suspended from all football-related activity for 2 months and fined $10,000 by FIFA for reselling tickets for the 2014 World Cup. So a ticket tout is president of the federation and they only suspend him for 2 months? You would really have thought he should have been removed from his position of power at the very least!

Red Star Denied Kosovo Entry

A Serbian Cup match has had to be postponed after Red Star Belgrade were denied entry to Kosovo to play their match against FK Trepka. Many Serbs refuse to accept Kosovo's independence, which it declared 11 years ago, and it is not the first time a Belgrade sports team were denied entry to the country. Last year Partizan Belgrade basketball team were also stopped at the border when they tried to enter the country to play a friendly.

Neymar Wins Cap 100

Neymar Jr has become the youngest player to win 100 caps for Brazil in possibly the biggest signal that international football is not as good as it once was. He is only the 7th man to reach 100 caps for Brazil, though he has been aided as more international football is played now than in the past. Which is highlighted by the fact that Pele only won 92 caps in total.

Aulas Claims Mourinho Has Chosen Next Club

Olympique Lyonnais approached Jose Mourinho to replace Sylvinho this week but Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed Mourinho knocked them back as he has chosen his next club already. Aulas said: "We had some fairly flattering exchanges over SMS. It was nice for everyone. He did not accept our proposal to meet because he has already chosen another club."

Casanova Breaks Up With Toulouse

French Ligue 1 club Toulouse and their head coach Alain Casanova have split by "mutual consent" with the club third from bottom of the league. Did he possibly say, 'it's not you, it's me', when they broke up? The youth academy's technical director Denis Zanko will step in on a caretaker basis while they search for a replacement.

Neuer Upsets Adidas

Bayern Munich's German international goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has upset Adidas, who he is contracted to and are the German national side's kit suppliers, as well as Bayern Munich, where they are also shareholders. The keeper was pictured getting off the Germany team bus in trainers made by French company Veja and an Adidas spokesperson said: "As a contracted Adidas player, Manuel Neuer is required to wear Adidas products. We will discuss the specific incident with the player."

Racial Abuse Leads To 3 Year Ban

An Italian man who racially abused Roma Defender Juan Jesus has been punished with a 3 year stadium ban, bizarrely. Hardly a deterrent to the next idiot, especially as there is a distinct possibility that the man is not a regular matchgoer anyway! Still, I suppose this is a country where a player being racially abused is told it is a compliment, so I should not expect better.

Saints Lose Analyst

Southampton's Head of Performance Analysis, Natasha Patel, has left the club to take up the same role with the New York Red Bulls. Patel had worked for the Saints for 8 years, rising from an analyst with the club's academy teams to head the entire section in 2016. She will now be overseeing NYRBs expansion in the use of analytics in areas such as opponent scouting, match preparation and player evaluations throughout the squad and academy teams. Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said: "On behalf of everyone at the club, I'd like to welcome Natasha. We are excited to have Natasha join us. Her work at Southampton was very impressive, from first team preparation to programs and processes she implemented behind the scenes to strengthen the club's use of analytics to drive performance. We will lean on Natasha to improve our use of data at all levels of the club."
