Review of the Day
Contracts
Former Arsenal winger Gervinho has agreed a new deal with Parma which runs until 2022.
Coventry City have given manager Mark Robins a new deal, just a day after Sunderland approached to try and appoint him. Robins said: "On the back of the approach from Sunderland, the club reacted really quickly with a new contract offer and I am grateful to them for that. I had no intention of leaving - when I spoke to Dave, I was unequivocal in my desire to stay. We agreed it all within 24 hours and I'm delighted to accept the new contract. Our immediate aim is to get into the Championship, and to come back to Coventry as soon as possible for our supporters."
Transfers
Exeter City have signed South African goalkeeper Dino Visser on a short term deal to cover for Lewis Ward, who is out with a broken arm.
Injury Round-Up
Blackburn Rovers defender Darragh Lenihan has been ruled out for up to 2 months with a knee injury he picked up against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. It forced him to pull out of the Republic of Ireland squad.
Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante has picked up another injury during the warm up for France ahead of the game with Iceland. Kante has only been able to feature in half of Chelsea's first 8 Premier League games this season due to injury.
Manager Of The Month
The manager of the month awards for September have been handed out. In the Premier League Jurgen Klopp has picked up his second in a row, with his Liverpool team maintaining a 100% league record. In the Championship the award went to Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi. League One's was given to Joey Barton of Fleetwood Town and Michael Duff of Cheltenham Town won the League Two version.
Sunderland Speak To Ainsworth
Sunderland have been given permission by Wycombe Wanderers to talk to their manager Gareth Ainsworth about replacing Jack Ross, who the Mackems sacked on Tuesday. Ainsworth led the Chairboys to promotion from League Two last season and has them sat in second in League One, four points ahead of Sunderland. Sunderland were rejected by Coventry City boss Mark Robins.
Heckingbottom Banned
Hibernian manager Paul Heckingbottom has been banned for 3 matches for kicking a water bottle which hit an assistant referee and swearing at another official during the 1-1 draw with Celtic last month. Heckingbottom will only miss two games, as the third is suspended until the end of the season.
Elliott Given 2 Week Ban
Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott has been banned for two weeks from all domestic football after admitting derogatory language about England and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in a video which he later uploaded to social media. Elliott will also have to complete a face-to-face education course and pay a £350 fine.
German Ultras Demand Release Of Player After Tweet
After St Pauli's Turkish player Cenk Sahin tweeted this: "We are at the side of our heroic military and armies. Our prayers are with you!" in support of Turkey's invasion/assault on Kurdish forces in Syria, the club's ultras have asked the club to sack him. They released a statement, which makes it clear that Sahin has repeatedly expressed views of a similar nature and shown callous disregard for the genocide that Kurds have suffered at the hands of Turkey. Their statement also read: "For us Ultras is therefore certain that Cenk Şahin no longer runs in the jersey of FC Sankt Pauli. We ask the club to release Cenk Şahin this Friday, October 11!" After a message of support to Rojava, they ended it by telling Sahin to go "f*** yourself!"
