Review of the Day

Transfers

Bradford City have finally been allowed to sign winger Chris Taylor on a two-month deal after the English Football League agreed to clear his registration. Taylor had originally signed for them last month, only for the deal to be cancelled due to a trial he had with Barrow which could potentially have seen the Bantams penalised if he played.

FC Cincinnati have traded midfielder Victor Ulloa and the first pick of the 2019 MLS Re-Entry Draft (stage 1) to Inter Miami. They have received $50,000 in General Allocation Money, a 2020 MLS SuperDraft 3rd round selection and the 26th pick of the 2019 MLS Re-Entry Draft (Stage 1).

Injury Round-Up

Charlton Athletic's Macauley Bonne has had to pull out of the Zimbabwe squad on "medical grounds". Bonne said on social media: "Unfortunately and reluctantly, I am unable to travel due to unforeseen medical grounds which is a huge frustration to me, as it will be to the people of Zimbabwe. The messages of support via social media are much appreciated and although I cannot reply to every message, I do take every one to heart. I'd like to wish the entire Zimbabwe team the very best of luck in the coming game(s)."

Hull City's former Arsenal midfielder Jon Toral has been ruled out for 3 months after knee surgery.

Wolverhampton Wanderers' winger Adama Traore has pulled out of the Spain squad due to injury. Traore said: "Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the call of the national team because of an injury in the game we played this Sunday against Aston Villa. I am sorry I cannot be in this call, but I will continue working to be in the best possible way for the next lists, God willing. I want to thank for the confidence that the coach has placed in me. This Monday I will have medical tests at my club, Wolverhampton, to know the extent of the injury."

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley and Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton have withdrawn from the England squad.

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper is out of the Scotland squad due to "a small tear in his groin area".

Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi has withdrawn from the France squad with a broken rib.

Warnock Leaves Bluebirds

Cardiff City have split with Neil Warnock, the manager who led them back to the Premier League just over a season ago. Warnock said: "I am leaving my beloved Bluebirds after over three years of which have been some of the best days in my long football career. It is a shared belief that this is the right time for a new voice as we believe this squad of players is more than capable of getting success." Cardiff City chairman Mehmet Dalman said: "On behalf of Cardiff City Football Club, I thank Neil for his invaluable contribution to the future of this great club. He not only gained promotion but played a pivotal role in uniting the fans and the club. I am personally upset by his departure and wish him the very best for the future."

VAR Chief Claims He Is Pleased With Its Start

Despite all the criticism from everyone else, the Premier League referees' lead on VAR, Neil Swarbrick, claimed it is working well. Swarbrick said: "I'm really pleased, honestly, with how we have started out. I'd give us around about seven-ish. We have more decisions correct with VAR than without it. If the mark now is seven - early days - in two years' time I'm hoping for maybe a eight and a half or nine. We are open to evolving with this - it's not a case of we're not budging. We will listen to feedback and where we can improve things, we will do." I have no words, if he truly believes any of this, then there is no hope for the game.
