Injury Round-Up

Andre Gomes is closing in on a return to action. The Everton midfielder is hoping to be fit for the trip to Arsenal on the 23rd February according to manager Carlo Ancelotti. Ancelotti said: "We have the possibility to prepare him for Arsenal. He had a bad injury but all the work the staff did was fantastic, I was surprised because he started training with the squad quickly. It's like having a new player. I don't want to say more. We have a break after the Crystal Palace game. I already spoke with the player, he agreed and the medical staff agreed, to have a plan to put him on the pitch against Arsenal."

Everton midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin may need a second surgery for a thigh injury. Carlo Ancelotti said: "Gbamin has a problem so he had a check with an English doctor. It may be in the next few days he has a new surgery to try and recover him before the end of the season. We hope to see him before the end of the season."

Bakambu Gets Almost Entry

Chinese Super League side Beijing Sinobo Guoan were in talks with Barcelona over the sale of their Congolese striker Cedric Bakambu on a long to buy deal. With a deal almost agreed, Bakambu caught a flight to Hong Kong from Seoul, where the team is currently staying to prepare for an AFC Champions League match against FC Seoul. The 28 year old got off the plane to find a message from his agent telling him the deal had been called off by Barcelona's sporting director Eric Abidal while he was in the air. To ensure no one forgot the forward asked transfer database website Transfermarkt to change his profile to list him as 'almost FC Barcelona'.

Bruce Suffers Transfer Setbacks

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has revealed that the Toon, who did manager to pick up Danny Rose, Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro in January, missed out on a couple of signings. A permanent deal, which would have equalled the fee paid for their record signing Joelinton, for Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare was agreed with his club, but Soumare turned them down. Bruce said: "We had a bid accepted that would have nearly got us to our record transfer eight days ago, where we had it accepted by the club and unfortunately, the player wanted to stay where he was. We were close to it [the club's record transfer fee] again, but couldn't get it over the line, which is a big disappointment to us. He was our number one target and unfortunately, we couldn't do it." They also had a loan bid for Olivier Giroud, the Chelsea striker, rejected.

Disciplinary Charges

Leyton Orient and Northampton Town have been fined £3,000 each by the Football Association after a mass brawl in their League Two draw. Orient were given a penalty in the 84th minute and a 14-man brawl broke out after it was scored.

Middlesbrough were fined £7,500 and Birmingham City £9,000 by the FA. A brawl involving players and coaches happened during their match at Boro's Riverside Stadium. Boro coach Leo Percovich has been handed a two game touchline ban and £3,000 fine for improper conduct. Birmingham's head of performance Sean Rush has also been banned for 1 match and fined £2,000.

Milan Move Collapses

Wigan Athletic's former Everton defender Antonee Robinson has seen his move to AC Milan collapse, despite the two clubs agreeing a £6m fee. The US international needed more medical tests which meant the deal could not be ratified before Italy's deadline for transfers.
