Review of the Day

Contracts

Philadelphia Union striker Kacper Przybylko has agreed a 3 year contract.

Matteo Gabbia has a new AC Milan deal which expires in the summer of 2024.

Swindon Town boss Richie Wellens has been given a new 3 and a half year deal after the Robins rejected an approach to speak to Wellens from Blackpool.

Vancouver Whitecaps have paid over £400,000 for Janio Bikel from CSKA Sofia.

Cameroon midfielder Joseph Marie Minala has joined Qingdao Huanghai on loan from Lazio.

Orebro have signed teeenage forward Jack Lahne on loan from Amiens.

Former Manchester United winger Zoran Tosic has joined Taizhou Yuanda from Partizan Belgrade.

Injury Round-Up

Bolton Wanderers defender Liam Edwards has suffered an injury to his knee cap during a collision in training and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Hull City will have to finish the season without striker Tom Eaves who has injured ankle ligaments.

West Ham United defender Ryan Fredericks has had surgery on his shoulder which will rule him out for 6 weeks.

French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has suffered a torn meniscus and is ruled out for an undisclosed period by Everton.

Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte is out for a month with a hamstring injury.

Disciplinary Charges

Accrington Stanley midfielder Sam Finley is facing an FA charge. The 27 year is alleged to have used "abusive/and or insulting language" with "reference to nationality" during a League 1 match against Rochdale.

Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton has been given another touchline ban for using abusive language towards an official. This time he has been handed a two-game ban and fined £2,000 after being found guilty.

Darnell Fisher's three-game ban for a straight red card that the Preston North End full-back was shown during the defeat at West Bromwich Albion has been rescinded. North End successfully claimed wrongful dismissal.

Bizarrely FC Copenhagen's Michael Santos has been charged for an alleged assault on a police officer after scoring at Celtic in the Europa League. Santos and a member of Copenhagen staff have both been charged by police. The club claim that it is a steward that is charged after he "tried to prevent a clash" after a police officer grabbed one of their goalscorers, Pep Biel, while he was trying to celebrate. A Copenhagen statement read: "One of our stewards tried to prevent a clash and was led away and talked with Scottish police. Michael Santos also talked with the police, who subsequently have charged them both."

Zamalek are refusing to accept the sanctions imposed by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) after they failed to turn up for the Cairo derby. The EFA decided that Al Ahly would be awarded a 2-0 win and that Zamalek should also be deducted 3 points and fined. Zamalek president Mortada Mansour told the club's TV channel: "These punishments from the EFA are valueless for me and I refuse all of them. In my opinion the EFA doesn't have the regulations to back these punishments. I'm wondering how they can punish Zamalek two days before an important match against Esperance in the African Champions League, what do they want to do to our Club?!"

The head of Madagascar's football federation is being hunted by the country's anti-corruption watchdog Bianco. Raoul Arizaka Rabekoto is being investigated with regards to "to embezzlement arising from acts suspected of gross corruption committed with (local football club) CNAPS" amounting to several million pounds.

Leeds United's goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has been found guilty of racially abusing Charlton Athletic forward Jonathan Leko. Casilla has been given an 8 match ban and fined £60,000.

Ayre Looks To Copy Former Club

Major League Soccer's Nashville SC appointed Ian Ayre as chief executive in 2018 and now he is looking to use the Liverpool recruitment model in MLS. Ayre said of setting up the new club: "Of course, it's tough. And starting a club and a season with 30 players who have never played together is unique and challenging. Starting a season with new fans, new sponsors, new stadium is all part of the challenge of putting on a show that makes Nashville proud. We've deployed or built the same sort of recruitment process and types of people - not obviously the same people - as we did at Liverpool. I'm a fan now of Liverpool Football Club. I've nothing to do with it other than being a fan, which I have been my whole life. But it makes me laugh when I hear how people talking in the media about this incredible recruitment process they have, which is the same recruitment process they've had for about 10 years that they were much maligned about when you were building that squad up. Only now that they start winning everyone thinks it's the best thing ever, and I always thought it was the best thing ever as did the owners. You'll get some players you want, some you won't get. But it's an evolution, not a revolution. You can't go out and buy five players and them all be brilliant every time. It just doesn't happen. But that's the one thing I would say on the football side, we really tried to mirror their recruitment process and infrastructure. I think as long as we can all look each other in the eye come the end of the season and say we did our best and made Nashville proud then we should be able to say it was a successful start. Equally, the margin of difference between teams in MLS is small, so anything and everything is possible in this league, which is a big part of the appeal. To be starting our first ever game shortly and having already sold almost as many tickets for our opening game as Anfield held when I joined in 2007 bodes well for a big start."

FIFA Cap Loans

FIFA are aiming to put a limit of eight on international loans in and out of a side from next season, with the limit dropping to six in the 2022/23 season. The rules will only apply to players aged 22 and over. Clubs such as Atalanta will be most affected, with 4 players in on loan and 55 players out on loan.

Latics Face Winding-Up Order

League Two side Oldham Athletic have been served with another winding-up order over unpaid taxes and will face the High Court in March. They had a previous winding up petition dismissed at the end of last year, following the club paying their outstanding tax debts. Oldham say they are currently in the process of paying off their current outstanding tax debt.

Championship Follows Prem

The Championship have agreed to return transfer deadline day back to the end of August. The Premier League also decided to move it back after a couple of seasons of closing it before the season kicked off. An English Football League statement read: "A process for formally adopting the change into EFL regulations will now take place in due course, bringing Championship Clubs in line with the current position for League One and League Two."

Hibs Owner Wants Return Of Alcohol Sales

Hibernian owner Ron Gordon is hoping to bring back the sale of alcohol within football stadiums as part of his plan to increase turnover by 100% in the next 5 years. The Peru-born American Gordon says: "It's essentially a penalty on football. I don't know exactly what's the best way to approach it. The club's have a responsibility to police that and police themselves, but at least they should be given a chance to somehow get back to that. Obviously, the last thing we want is trouble, bad behaviour. England had the ban and they've been able to grow out of it. I don't see any reason why we can't. It's a big revenue stream. If we could do more, that would be phenomenal. But it will be good to get the league behind us and we got to get the government to give us a shot. In a healthy way it can be part of the matchday experience. We want to be in the top four and compete in every competition. Being in Europe on a consistent basis is a very significant aspiration but not out of the realm of possibility. Second, and very importantly, we want to run a financially sound, sustainable and innovative business. We want to be a club that's at the forefront of the game, at the forefront of our civic responsibility. We have a long way to go because Aberdeen has a substantially higher number budget and turnover, the same thing with Hearts. We need to move up that ladder. It's a very ambitious goal. So a lot of the funds that are going to be generated operationally are going to go into the football programme."

Pardew's Reign Already In Trouble

Alan Pardew was the surprise choice to rescue Eredivisie struggled ADO Den Haag from the drop, but it seemed to be working when they won their first game 2-0, the team's first league victory since October. The five games since then have seen Den Haag lose 3 and draw 2, conceding 13 goals. The fans have already turned on Pardew, with a group approaching him and the players during a training session on Wednesday according to Den Haag: "It was about a group of approximately 10 worried fans. They expressed, in a calm and non-hostile way, their concerns to the staff and players at the start of the training."

Leganes Unhappy With Spanish FA

Leganes have claimed that the Spanish Football Federation has caused them "enormous damage" by refusing to allow them to replace Martin Braithwaite. Braithwaite joined Barcelona outside of the transfer window after Ousmane Dembele was ruled out for six months. Leganes stated: "These are unfair regulations. It goes against the integrity of the competition and the right of all clubs to compete in equal conditions and has caused enormous and serious damage to the club."
