Disciplinary Charges

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) are investigating a video message that was shown to the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of their pointless friendly match against England at Wembley. It has been claimed that the video, which was intended as a motivational tool, included anti-English political content.

Toon Launch Legal Action Against Prem

Newcastle United have begun legal proceedings against the Premier League following their failed takeover by a Saudi Arabian consortium in June. The Toon believe that the league broke a confidentiality agreement when "leaked the contents" of a letter about the takeover to a supporters' group. The legal action concerns the Newcastle Consortium Supporters Ltd (NCSL), who sent a letter to the Premier League "questioning the body's conduct in the owners' and directors' test". In response NCSL said that the Premier League's lawyers, Bird and Bird, responded: "Bird & Bird has confirmed that the club is currently in a legal dispute with the EPL regarding the proposed acquisition, which may lead to a duplication of the issues raised by the fans consortium. The EPL has said it would therefore be premature for us to bring our claim now."

Bruce Hits Out At Almiron's Amateur Agent

Newcastle United Steve Bruce has branded Miguel Almiron's agent "an amateur looking to make a fast buck" over comments Daniel Campos made on Paraguayan radio. Bruce, who is normally known for being diplomatic rather than fiery, said: "I couldn't miss the quotes because they were so outrageous it was bordering on the ridiculous. If it was Miguel, who I've had the pleasure to work with for the last 15 months, knocking on my door and having a problem, I'd listen. An agent who, two years in, is probably trying to profit again and take him somewhere else, is just hugely disrespectful to all of us basically, and to the club in particular who have served Miguel so well. I will have a conversation with him of course, but Miguel is an unbelievable pro and has a great attitude to everything. But the agent proves to me he is an amateur looking to make a fast buck again, which is pretty ridiculous." Campos had told the radio that his client would have already moved on from Newcastle if the pandemic had not ended the chance of a move, with both Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid showing interest in signing Almiron.
