Middlesbrough and Bournemouth overtook Derby County on Saturday afternoon to lead the Championship table after Boro beat Derby 2-0 in the early kick off thanks to goals from on loan Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford and Grant Leadbitter. Eddie Howe's growing reputation was enhanced further as Bournemouth beat Cardiff 5-3 whilst scoring goals in the first and final minute of the match.

The pick of the other matches in The Championship saw Birmingham hammer Reading with Demerai Gray helping himself to a hatrick on the way. Leeds United suffered a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Fulham with Hugo Rodallega on target at Elland Road.

Ten man Huddersfield Town were handsomely beaten 5-0 away to Norwich City, while Brentford beat Blackburn Rovers 3-1, Wolves beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Hillsborough and Watford beat Wigan Athletic 2-1 at home. Blackpool scored a late equalizer at The Valley to deny Charlton Athletic a victory and the matches between Bolton Wanderers v Ipswich Town and Rotherham United v Nottingham Forest both finished without score.

In League One, Bristol City continue to lead the way with a 1-0 win over Crawley Town with second placed Swindon Town also picking up three points with a 3-0 win over Notts County. Crewe Alexandra, Colchester United, Leyton Orient and Yeovil Town occupy the drop zone after Scunthorpe United beat The Alex 2-1.

League Two high flyers Burton Albion impressed new coach Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink while piling on the misery for Hartlepool United with an emphatic 4-0 win. Wycombe Wanderers continue to lead the way though after they also hit four to dispatch Southend United 4-1. Portsmouth fought back from two down to two all against Accrington Stanley, but a late Piero Mingoia winner broke Pompey hearts and gave Stanley a 3-2 victory.
