Contracts

Bundesliga side Greuther Furth have given American midfielder Julian Green a new deal which will expire in 2024.

Matt Grimes has signed an extension with Swansea City which runs until 2025.

Transfers

Sheffield Wednesday have signed free agent winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, who was available after Middlesbrough terminated his contract for being tested positive for cocaine use.

Another free agent winger, Viv Solomon-Otabor, has signed a short-term contract with St Johnstone. The deal will run until January as cover for injuries.

Injury Round-Up

Plymouth Argyle's former Everton defender Brendan Galloway has suffered a dislocated kneecap against Wycombe Wanderers.

Teenage full-back Dennis Cirkin, who signed for Sunderland in the summer from Tottenham Hotspur, has been ruled out for at least a month due to a hernia injury.

Blackburn Rovers will have to do without Ian Poveda, who is on loan from Leeds United for the season, for a "significant period of time" after he fractured his ankle.

Bayern Munich's Cameroon international Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is the latest player to be ruled out after testing positive for CV.

Napoli's Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is set to miss the Africa Cup of Nations with a facial injury which will rule him out for 3 months. The 22-year-old fractured his cheekbone and eye socket in a clash of heads with Inter's Milan Skriniar during their defeat to Inter Milan on Sunday.

Sheffield United midfielder John Fleck collapsed on the pitch under no challenge on Tuesday as his team faced Reading in the Championship. The 30-year-old Scottish international needed lengthy treatment before being stretchered off and taken to hospital. He has since been discharged from hospital but will be monitored closely by the Blades' medical staff.

Chelsea are assessing knee injuries suffered by Ben Chilwell and N'Golo Kante during their battering of Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Antonio Conte has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero's hamstring injury is "a bit serious" and has been unable to give a return date for the Argentine international.

Managerial Changes

Just 8 months after taking charge, Keith Curle has left Oldham Athletic by 'mutual consent'. The Latics have won just one in their last nine games and have lost lost 11 times in the league this season.

In League One, former Leeds United boss Simon Grayson has left Fleetwood Town after a run of 5 losses in their last 6 games and 8 without a win. His assistant David Dunn, the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder, is also leaving.

Disciplinary Charges

Rochdale midfielder Abraham Odoh has become the latest in a long string of players to be racially abused on social media and the club have reported the abuse to the authorities.

A fan at the League One game between Shrewsbury Town and Sunderland has been arrested following an alleged racist incident.

There has also been an investigation launched by Rotherham United after a visiting Cambridge United supporter reported that they were racially abused during the match between the two sides on Saturday.

West Bromwich Albion's appeal against Jake Livermore's red card for violent conduct has been rejected. The 32-year-old will now sit out three matches.

Swansea City are investigating after their fans started fighting between themselves during the draw with Blackpool on Saturday. Police had to enter the stand to break up the trouble, which is believed to have been caused by a supporter waving a Union Flag.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been found guilty of conspiring to blackmail fellow French international Mathieu Valbuena over a sex tape found on Valbuena's phone. Benzema has received a one-year suspended jail sentence and a 75,000euro fine. The incident occurred in 2015 and Benzema was initially exiled from the French national team due to it but has recently been recalled. Franch have said that the guilty verdict will not necessarily affect his place in the squad.

Billion Euro Starlet Is Golden Boy

The teenage talent that Barcelona put a 1bn euro release clause on, Pedri, has become the third Spaniard to win the Golden Boy award from Italian newspaper Tuttosport. The award, which was launched in 2003, has also only been won once before by a Barca player, Lionel Messi in 2005. The other Spaniards were Cesc Fabregas in 2006 and Isco in 2012. Last year's winner was Erling Haaland. The runner up was Borussia Dortmund's English midfielder Jude Bellingham. The online fan vote saw Karim Adeyemi of Red Bull Salzburg win, ahead of Charles De Ketelaere of Club Brugge.

Jose Keeps Promise

After his young striker Felix Afena-Gyan scored his first goals for AS Roma, Jose Mourinho has kept a promise he made to him. Mourinho had promised the teenager a pair of Balenciaga trainers if he scored and the Ghanaian made sure to remind his boss of the promise: "I promised him a very expensive pair of shoes, for 800 euros, and he came to me to make sure I didn't forget. I really like his coldness, his physicality but above all his humility."
