Review of the Day
Contracts
Bristol City have activated midfielder Tyreeq Bakinson year's contract extension, taking his deal up to 2023.
Nigerian forward Cedric Omoigui has a new deal with Racing Santander which will expire in 2025.
Experienced Brazilian centre-forward Leandro Damiao, at one time linked constantly with a move to the Premier League (particularly Tottenham Hotspur), has extended his deal with Kawasaki Frontale until 2023.
Sampdoria have given goalkeeper Nicola Ravaglia a contract which will end in 2024.
USL side New Mexico United have given English winger Daniel Bruce a deal for next season.
Teenage winger Kevin Schade has a new long-term contract with SC Frieburg, which runs until 2026.
Transfers
RB Leipzig's former Barcelona midfielder Ilaix Moriba, or Moriba Kourouma Kourouma as he is also known, has been cleared to switch his international allegiance to Guinea from Spain. The 18-year-old had played for Spain at under-17 level.
Injury Round-Up
Sunderland's veteran former Celtic and Everton winger Aiden McGeady is out for 3 months with a knee injury he suffered on Tuesday night.
Wigan Athletic striker Charlie Wyke is in hospital after the 28-year-old collapsed in training. The League One side have confirmed that he is stable and communicating with family and staff.
Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell has been ruled out for at least 6 weeks with the ACL injury he picked up against Juventus. The Blues are hopeful that a period of rest will avoid the need for surgery, which would rule him out for a much longer term.
Managerial Changes
Despite being a miserable failure in caretaker charge after Chris Wilder's sacking (and during a spell in charge of Leeds United), Sheffield United have appointed Paul Heckingbottom as their new manager after sacking Slavisa Jokanovic. Serb Jokanovic only took charge in May.
Legendary former Barcelona, Chelsea and er Everton striker Samuel Eto'o has been cleared to stand in elections for the next president of the Cameroon Football Federation. Eto'o had initially been told he would be ineligible to stand due to having dual nationality from his time in Barcelona.
Paris Saint-Germain's sporting director Leonardo has rubbished rumours that Mauricio Pochettino has asked to leave the club to take up the vacant managerial role at Manchester United. The Brazilian said: "We don't want Pochettino to leave. He's never asked to leave and no club have contacted us in relation to him." Leonardo also laughed off reports of contact with Zinedine Zidane to replace him: "It's ridiculous to imagine that a meeting with Zinedine Zidane could have taken place in a big hotel in Paris in front of the eyes of everyone. We have a lot of respect for Zinedine Zidane, what he did as a player and coach, but I can tell you very clearly that there is no contact and that no meeting with him took place."
Meanwhile Manchester United have reached agreement with Lokomotiv Moscow to take the club's head of sports and development, Ralf Rangnick, to Old Trafford to take interim charge of United, before a two year consultancy role.
Disciplinary Charges
Salford City midfielder Matty Willock's red card from Tuesday's game against Bristol Rovers has been rescinded.
Birmingham City midfielder Ryan Woods, on the other hand, has seen his appeal against a red card picked up against Coventry City rejected.
Just a day after the initial legal case against him was closed, the president of Football Kenya Federation, Nick Mwendwa, has been re-arrested and will be spending the weekend behind bars. No official reason has been given for his arrest.
Derby Lose Million
It has been revealed that Derby County made a trading loss of £1.2m in their first 8 weeks in administration. The club received £2,032,000 in income but spent £2,136,000 on wages alone, with the total outgoings reaching over £3.2m. Investment company MSD even stepped in to loan the club £1.25m during the period, but there was still the large loss. Adminstrators have stated that more loans will be needed if the club is to fulfil its fixtures this season.
Brentford To Keep Home Kit
Premier League side Brentford have become the first in a long time to decide to stick with the same home kit for a second season. The club, after consultation with fans, have decided to do so to save their fans money and to become more environmentally sustainable. Bees' chief executive Jon Varney said: "We believe in football being affordable for our fans and are aware of the need for the game to become more focussed on sustainability. It is only a little thing, but we believe it will help. Whilst it is not normal practice for Premier League clubs to roll a kit over for two seasons, fans have told us that they would be in favour of the savings that a two-season shirt would provide. When we discussed the idea, everyone at the club was fully behind it. We also think this is a step in the right direction to help the environment a little. It can only be good to reduce kit cycles."
World Cup Play-Off Draw
The draw has been made for the play-offs, which will be played over just one leg, to decide which other European nations make it to Qatar next year. Belgium, France, Spain, Croatia, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Netherlands and Serbia have already qualified.
