Veteran 44 (yes really forty-four) year old Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon has signed a contract extension with Parma which will take him up until 2024.

Heart of Midlothian have given their experienced former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday a new deal which expires in 2024.

Transfers

Watford's former Manchester United youngster Ashley Fletcher has moved to Major League Soccer to join New York Red Bulls on loan with an option to buy.

Former Tottenham Hotspur academy player Kazaiah Sterling has moved to Tormenta FC in the American USL1 on a free transfer from Potters Bar.

Australian A-League side Adelaide United midfielder Stefan Mauk has moved to Japan to sign for Fagiano Okayama.

Northampton Town have signed former Inter Milan youngster Ryan Nolan.

Injury Round-Up

Legendary Brazilian superstar Pele has been discharged from hospital again. The 81 year old was receiving treatment in Hospital Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo for a treatment on a colon tumour and a urinary tract infection.

Managerial Changes

Leeds United have sacked their manager Marcelo Bielsa, the man Pep Guardiola said he admires most in coaching, and replaced him with Jesse Marsch. Leeds has slipped into a relegation battle this season after taking the Premier League by storm to finish 9th with a breathless and exciting style of football.

Egyptian giants Zamalek have sacked head coach Patrice Carteron after losing to Wydad Casablanca in the African Champions League.

AFC WImbledon's chief executive Joe Palmer has stood down from the role. Palmer joined the Dons in 2018 as chief operating officer before becoming CEO the following year.

Lee Bradbury has left his role as assistant manager at Crawley Town to step up to become manager of Eastleigh.

Disciplinary Charges

Everton have written to the Premier League to demand an apology over the most blatant handball you will see this season by Manchester City midfielder Rodri. The Toffees were furious after bumbling referee Paul Tierney saw fit not to give a penalty and Mancunian referee Chris Kavanagh in the VAR hub decided that the clear handball was not going to be overturned. Everton boss Frank Lampard commented after the match that even his three year old daughter could have seen that was a penalty.

League One bottom club Crewe Alexandra have been fined £2,500 for disorderly conduct against Oxford United.

Ukraine Invasion

FIFA and UEFA have finally acted to suspend Russian football clubs and their national teams from all competitions "until further notice". UEFA have also ended their sponsorship deal with Russian energy company Gazprom. FIFA had initially said that Russia would be able to continue to compete, but not under their own flag, name, national anthem or at their own stadiums. However, after numerous nations announced that they would refuse to play against Russia under any name or flag, FIFA took the step to ban them altogether. The International Olympic Committee had also recommended that all sports enforce a total ban on Russia and Belarus.

Gunners Make Huge Loss

Arsenal have announced their financial results for the year ending 31 May 2021 and it is not pretty reading with the Premier League side making a record post-tax loss of £107.3m. The Gunners state that up to £85m of the losses were down to the impact of the pandemic, which cost them over £70m in matchday revenue alone. Just hours before releasing the financial results, Arsenal had announced a 4% increase in ticket prices for next season.

Hoyle Back In For Terriers

The former owner of Huddersfield Town, Dean Hoyle, is in talks to buy the Championship side once again. Phil Hodgkinson, who bought it from Hoyle in 2019, has stepped down as director to focus on his other business interests after nine of his other businesses were placed into administration.
