Contracts

1.FC Koln have given their German right-back Benno Schmitz a new contract running until 2024.

Veteran Brazilian centre-back Dante has extended his deal with OGC Nice until the end of next season.

Teenage forward Thomas Kastanaras has signed an extension to take him until 2025.

Goalkeeping duo Luke McGee and Lewis Thomas have signed contract extensions with Forest Green Rovers.

Transfers

Leaving TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in the summer for a fee of around $3m will be Brazilian striker Joao Klauss, who has signed a pre-contract to join Major League Soccer expansion side St Louis City. The 25 year old is currently on loan at Sint-Truiden in Belgium.

The Ukrainian exodus from Russian football continues, this time it is midfielder Artem Polyarus who has been released by Akhmat Grozny.

Moving to the MLS on loan is Joshue Quinonez from Ecuadorian side Barcelona SC to join FC Dallas.

Free agent French midfielder Clement Grenier has signed for RCD Mallorca.

One of the Brazilians who fled the Ukraine has found a new club. Dentinho has left Shakhtar Donetsk on a free transfer and joined Ceara SC.

Clyde have backtracked on the loan re-signing of David Goodwillie due to the furious response to the pending return of the rapist forward. The playing staff and general manager of Clyde's women's team had quit in protest at the move. North Lanarkshire Council, who own the club's Broadwood Stadium, had threatened to end the lease agreement if he entered the stadium. The tenancy contract contains a clause which enables them to deny entry to a person "on the grounds of undesirable behaviour". The council stated that Goodwillie's lack of contrition was behind the move. When Goodwillie played for Clyde previously, the council did not have legal control of the stadium.

Injury Round-Up

Wigan Athletic striker Charlie Wyke is back in training following his heart attack in November. The 29 year old collapsed during a training session and was in hospital for over a week after his cardiac arrest. After time back in training while a cardiologist and the club's medical staff monitored him, he will undergo an operation which will rule him out for the rest of the season.

Managerial Changes

Just a week after stepping down from the Comoros job, Amir Abdou has been appointed as new national coach of Mauritania in place of Didier Gomes Da Rosa. Da Rosa only took charge in November, but lost all three of the nations group matches at the 2021 AFCON with the team failing to score a single goal.

Disciplinary Charges

Minority Newcastle United owners Amanda Staveley and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi are being taken to court by former owner Mike Ashley, who claims the pair breached the terms of a £10m loan by criticising his tenure at the club. Staveley had commented that she was "looking forward" to removing signs advertising Ashley's jumble sales store Sports Direct and that she was "slightly frustrated" about being unable to take a picture without the signs on view. It took until December, more than two months after the takeover was completed, before the signs were taken down.

Crawley Town's manager John Yems has been banned from the touchline for 3 matches and fined £2,250 after he admitted 4 charges of using abusive or offensive language towards the referee.

Ukraine Invasion

Ukraine have requested a postponement of their World Cup play-off semi-final against Scotland. The game was due to be played on 24th March but the invasion of Ukraine by Russia has seen all football suspended in the nation. The winners are due to face the winner of the play-off semi-final between Wales and Austria for a place at Qatar 2022.

The Russian Football Union are appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against their suspension "until further notice" from international football. Both FIFA and UEFA decided to suspend Russian club and national teams after an outcry from other countries at their original ruling of allowing them to compete but not fly the Russian flag, play the national anthem and under a different name. Russia have said they will seek to have the competitions suspended if they fail to get their suspensions lifted.

In light of the issues thrown up by the Roman Abramovich situation at Chelsea, the Premier League has revealed that they will be "looking at" their fit and proper owners test. The league's chief executive, Richard Masters, also said that they will be looking at suspending or terminating their TV deals in Russia.

Belarusian clubs and national teams will only be allowed to play their 'home' games at neutral stadiums without fans in attendance due to the nation's support for the invasion.

EFL Say Derby Have Funding

The English Football League have said that Derby County's administrators Quantuma have shown that the club has "sufficient cash" to complete the season. The Rams have still yet to name a preferred bidder and the EFL also said there remains a "number of challenges" to the club's future.

Cardiff Debt Rises

Cardiff City's latest financial results have shown that debt had risen to around £109m last year, when the accounts are for. Owner Vincent Tan has once again increased his loans to the club, despite regularly turning loans into equity over the last few years. The figures showed a loss of £11.15m for the 2020-21 season.
