Everton Players Overview after the Latest Everton v Liverpool Match

When you struggle to give MOTM to just 1 player i think it tells you what a performance some of the Everton players put in today.

Pickford: He gets his fair share of critics but he was absolutely colossal today wasn't he. Not only with his saves but his rallying of the players around him. Pulled off some world class saves and he seemed to stay level headed when we have seen him lose it a little bit in the past. Mature and commanding performance - great to see.

Patterson: Brilliant in both defense and attack. Considering people who had watched him in SPL were saying he wasn't the best defensively he was a monster in that department today. Loved his attitude and desire. Watching him celebrate that disallowed goal shows he gets this club.

Coady and Tarks: both solid again. Great to see Coady celebrate the way he did, shame he didn't get his Phil Neville on Ronaldo moment.

Mykolenko: Solid defensively again but don't really get much from him going forward.

Davies: Didn't play badly but didn't play well either. Neither here nor there. I feel he always plays it safe so its hard to look good or bad when you approach a game that way. Not a starter in the 11 for me.

Onana: Beast of a presence in the middle of the park. Having him and Idrissa in the middle is going to sure us up no end and will only help the backline. Hopefully we can see him gallop on further into the oppositions half knowing that the machine is sat behind him. His tackling and pressing today was phenomenal.

Iwobi: Great running again from the lad, he has a brilliant engine on him. Some lovely footwork in this and the Leeds United game which shows his confidence is growing. His passing was a lot better today as well. Frank deserves a lot of credit for turning him around and getting a tune out of him. As fans all we want as a minimum is work rate and he has it, now, in abundance.

Gordon: more of the same of his previous performances. It is becoming standard now isn't it, it shows the level of his progression. Direct and always looking to make things happen, was a bit gutted he came off tbh as the next fella should have gone for me.

Gray: Starting to dislike his attitude in spells on the pitch. He seems to want it to be all about him, rather than the team. Saw it with him towards Patt at Leeds and today at Gordon. Gets caught out on the ball far too much when the intensity of the game is at its highest, he seems to dawdle. There was times today where he could have offered an option and imo looked to be spitting his dummy out and being a mard arse. His delivery was abysmal today. If we had options in the wide areas i would drop him for the next game.

Maupay: By all accounts from Brighton fans he is a bit of a work horse but he looked a bit laboured in his running today. Hopefully this is down to him not being match fit and we see a bit more energy. Should have scored, he panicked and snatched at the shot, much like Patt did at Leeds. Tough job to do today with 0 minutes on the clock this season. Can only improve.

Idrissa: As soon as there were talks that he was coming home i was happy. What he offers to us is so unique. His ability to read the play, his mobility, when to press, when to step off. He is just a monster. I think he will be even better for us now than in his first spell. Playing at that level with those players will only have brought him on technically, which i think we saw a little bit today with his smart touches and passes to get us on the counter. He will only allow the players in front of him to express themselves further up the pitch which is exactly what we have lacked. Brilliant when he came on and he can't even be considered fit yet.

McNeil: I imagine there will be more "give him a chance" shouts. I saw enough in the Nottingham Forest game to know what he is about and what type of ceiling he has. Every time i have seen him play his passing is so poor. He has no bottle to take the game to the opposition like every winger should. People keep saying judge him when Dom is fit and he can cross to a striker. If that is the only thing he can offer this team, crossing, then that says enough in itself about his ability. From what i have seen so far his delivery is poor. Perhaps what was most disappointing today about him was that he came on with 8 minutes to play. He should have been busting a gut to close players down and to offer options once we turned the ball over and he jogged around half arsed. I don't know if anyone picked up on it but even Pickford was fuming with him for what i have just mentioned. 8 minutes to run your absolute bollocks out and he comes on 70%. Just baffles me.

All in all it is great not to lose to them.

A lot of positives to take from today. We are only going to improve as the core team learn the way Frank wants to play and the new signings come into the side and feel more at home.

That game could have gone either way today, both teams had big big chances and the both keepers were at the top of their game. Great to see players working hard again and there being some personal accountability in the teams, i think that comes from bringing the leaders into the side who demand it from the players around them and aren't afraid to bollock people.

If you swap out Maupay for Dom in that side it gives us a lot more to aim for up top, more mobility and more pressure to the oppositions defence. We still have Godfrey and Douc's to swap out for people in the squad which only gives us more options.

Tough run of fixtures coming up and that sets a solid marker and will give us a lot of confidence to take forward. Not getting carried away but the improvements we will see will come thick and fast, mainly due to how bad we were and how bad the players were that have been replaced.

The new signings will give us a completely different look now and it was a solid window.

Final note - who said Coady can't play in a back 2 - what drivel.

Have a good weekend and UTFT!
