Injury Round Up

There was some good news for Leeds United fans after the club's head coach Jesse Marsch revealed that Spanish international forward Rodrigo will not require surgery after dislocating his shoulder against Everton. Leeds are still expecting him to sit out the whole of September.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is out with a hamstring injury that will "definitely" rule him out of the weekend's Merseyside derby.

Ipswich Town forward Sone Aluko has been sidelined for a lengthy period after suffering knee and hamstring injuries during the Papa Johns Trophy thrashing of Northampton Town. He will miss several months.

Job Changes

Walid Regragui has been appointed by Morocco as their new national team head coach. Regragui won 45 caps as a player for the African nation and was available after quitting Wydad Casablanca after just one season in charge, where he won the Moroccan league and the African Champions League.

Egypt's Al Ahly have sacked their head coach after just two months. Portugese manager Ricardo Soares was appointed to try and keep Al Ahly in the title race for the Egyptian Premier League but failed to do so and bitter rivals Zamalek won it for the second season in a row. Al Ahly ended the season in third place, the first time they have failed to finish in the top two since the 1991-92 season. Soares also tasted defeat to Zamalek in the Egyptian Cup final.

Disciplinary Charges

The Football Association are investigating an incident during Newcastle United's defeat at Anfield to a last-gasp Liverpool goal. TV footage showed what appeared to be a Newcastle staff member throwing something towards the Liverpool technical area. There was a melee just afterwards between players and staff from both teams, though it is not yet known if the object sparked the fracas.

The jury in the trial of Ryan Giggs on assault and controlling behaviour charges has been discharged after failing to reach a verdict. The Crown Prosecution Service now has a week to decide whether to attempt a retrial.

Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter has been given a three-match ban for violent conduct. Rossiter made a challenge on Shrewsbury Town's Tom Bayliss but the officials failed to spot the incident. The Bristol Rovers player admitted the charge.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has been referred to the Attorney General over a social media post he made during Ryan Giggs trial. A long-time former teammate of Giggs, Neville is "absolutely adamant" that the post was aimed at the Glazer family's ownership of Manchester United and not related to the trial but the judge believed it could well have been contempt of court and said: "Given the author is a person with a high public profile and his social media account has 1.5 million followers, it could be seen to be an attempt to influence on-going criminal proceedings and could be contempt of court. Accordingly, I am referring the matter to the office of the Attorney General for the consideration of a potential prosecution."

A former official for the Zimbabwe FA (ZIFA), Obert Zhoya, has been banned from football for 5 years and fined 20,000 Swiss francs by FIFA for sexually harassing three female referees. Zhoya was secretary general of the referees committee and was found guilty of "abusing his position". A FIFA statement read: "Upon careful analysis of the written statements of the victims as well as the various evidence collected during the investigations conducted, the adjudicatory chamber was comfortably satisfied that Mr Zhoya had breached [three articles of] the code of ethics." The scary thing is that nothing was done when the allegations were made initially to ZIFA, Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA, and a formal investigation was not launched until the victims went to the police.
