Review of the Day
Contracts
Chelsea have given their star young right-back Reece James a new deal that will not expire until 2028.
Millwall academy product Isaac Olaofe has signed a long term contract with the club.
Transfers
Walsall have signed two free agents. Former Chelsea youngster Jacob Maddox has joined after being released by Vitoria Guimaraes and teenage striker Jonas Mukuna has also joined after a lengthy trial period, spending the entirety of pre-season with Walsall.
Former Manchester City winger Nolito has found a new club in LaLiga2 as the veteran free agent has signed for UD Ibiza.
Possibly the worst goalkeeper ever to play in the Premier League has hung up his gloves. West Ham United flop Roberto, who cost Manuel Pellegrini his job due to his stubborn refusal to drop him, has retired at the age of 36.
Injury Round Up
Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been forced to have the knee surgery he was hoping to avoid after attempting to train. The selective external arthroscopic meniscectomy was said to be "a complete success" but the 29-year-old is almost certain to miss the World Cup this winter as he recovers.
Manchester City's former Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker is a doubt for the next few games after being taken off against Aston Villa with an injury. The England international also missed City's open training session on Monday leaving him a doubt.
Job Changes
Burton Albion are searching for a new manager after Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink quit with the club rooted to the foot of the League One table. The Brewers have managed just 1 point in their 7 league matches this season. Dino Maamria will take interim charge of the team.
Manchester City have poached Ryan DeFreitas from Leicester City to become their first-team performance analyst for training. DeFreitas originally joined the Foxes back in 2013 as a performance analysis and recruitment intern before rising to become their Lead Academy Performance Analyst.
Disciplinary Charges
Police have launched an investigation after former Everton youngster Hallam Hope was "viciously assaulted" and left with "serious injuries" after playing for Oldham Athletic against Chesterfield. The incident happened in the staff car park after the game and Chesterfield have admitted that they are aware of an allegation relating to one of their players. Hope had to be taken to hospital and will be out of action "for some weeks" according to a Latics statement.
Former Everton forward Cenk Tosun was attacked by a fan at the end of Besiktas' 3-2 win over Ankaragucu. After the match finished, where another former Everton player in Dele Alli scored for Besiktas, a supporter ran onto the pitch and kicked Besiktas sub Tosun in the back. Bizarrely Josef de Souza, who had been brought on in place of Alli earlier in the match, was shown a red card after throwing the pitch invader to the ground, despite only acting in defence of himself and teammates against a man who could easily have been armed and had already attacked a teammate. De Souza questioned the decision to card him saying: "The attack was aimed at where we were collectively. We don't know if he has a knife or what. If Cenk had not returned, the attacker would have broken his back. We do not know for what purpose he attacked. I have no intention of attacking. I'm just defending it. I ran to the side and immediately tried to call security, the police. This is also seen in the images. I wouldn't have called the police and security if my intentions were bad. The referee asked me and I helped the referee throughout the match. I'm having trouble understanding why I'm getting a card. It is my greatest regret that such events occur in the field. I hope it doesn't happen again. We should only have football in our minds, the rest is not our concern."

The paid also own rugby union side Worcester Warriors which is in serious financial difficulties and been served a winding-up petition by HMRC over an unpaid tax bill of around £6m. Morecambe have confirmed that the football club's finances are completely separate from the rugby teams but Whittingham and Goldring have stepped down to concentrate on sorting out the mess at Worcester.
