Contracts

Coventry City goalkeeper Ben Wilson's deal has been extended until 2025.

Northampton Town have given defender Aaron McGowan a new contract which will also run until 2025.

Villareal winger Alex Baena has signed a long term deal which will expire in 2028.

Experienced striker Mark Uth has agreed a new contract with 1. FC Koln which runs out in 2025.

Athletic Bilbao forward Asier Vallalibre is another to agree to stay until 2025.

Augsburg midfielder Fredrik Jensen is also staying put until 2025.

Crystal Palace's Spanish goalkeeper Vicente Guaita has added on a year to his deal to take him up until the end of next season.

Newcastle United have re-signed Loris Karius until the end of the season.

Borussia Dortmund teenager (?) Youssoufa Moukoko has signed a new contract which will run until 2026.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have given young midfielder Joe Hodge a new contract which will expire at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Transfers

Arsenal have paid £21m plus future add-ons for Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea's spending spree shows no sign of slowing down as they have paid PSV Eindhoven over £30m for England U-21 international winger Noni Madueke.

Aston Villa have sold Danny Ings to West Ham United for an initial fee of £12m, with a further £3m to come if the Hammers avoid relegation this season.

Atletico Madrid have paid an initial fee of just £2.6m to sign former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay from Barcelona. The deal also gives Barca an option to sign Yannick Carrasco from Atleti.

Leicester City have signed FC Copenhagen left-back Victor Kristiansen for around £17m.

Newcastle United have allowed former Leeds United striker Chris Wood to join Nottingham Forest on loan. The deal also includes an option to make the move for the New Zealand international into a permanent move.

Benfica have signed Goncalo Guedes on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The English Football League have placed a transfer embargo on Sheffield United after they failed to make payments for a previous transfer. The Blades will be unable to sign any players "without the written prior consent of the league" until they make all outstanding payments.

Brentford have recalled Tariqe Fosu from a loan with Stoke City and instead sent him to Rotherham United on loan.

After new Bournemouth owner Bill Foley bought a minority stake in Lorient, the French club have sold winger Dango Ouattara to the Cherries for £20m.

Rangers manager Michael Beale has confirmed his team are interested in signing Nicolas Raskin from Standard Liege.

Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew have paid an undisclosed fee to Aberdeen for Christian Ramirez.

Swansea City manager Russell Martin has revealed that the club have rejected bids from Rangers for Morgan Whittaker. He also said that they have turned down offers for Michael Obafemi, though he did not mention which clubs are interested. Both players are out of contract in the summer.

Hull City have taken Crystal Palace striker Malcolm Ebiowei on loan.

Cardiff City have recalled Mark McGuinness back early from his season-long loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

Luton Town have sent former Arsenal youngster Matt Macey to Portsmouth on loan.

Teenage Nottingham Forest forward Dale Taylor has moved to Burton Albion on loan.

Fleetwood Town have taken Scott Robertson on loan from Celtic.

Liverpool's teenage defender Jarell Quansah has signed for Bristol Rovers on loan.

Arsenal have sold young defender Harry Clarke to Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee. Clarke began his youth career with Ipswich before moving to Arsenal. The Tractor Boys have also recalled Elkan Baggott from his loan with Gillingham to send him to Cheltenham Town on loan instead.

Leeds United forward Max Dean has been sold to MK Dons for an undisclosed fee.

Brentford goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe has signed for Bristol Rovers on loan.

Accrington Stanley have signed Seb Quirk on a permanent deal from Everton.

Manchester United forward Shola Shoretire has moved to Bolton Wanderers on loan.

Morecambe have taken Michael Mellon on loan from Burnley.

St Pauli have paid an undisclosed fee to sign Bolton striker Dapo Afolyan.

Barnsley defender Jasper Moon has signed on loan for Burton Albion. Incoming to Barnsley is another defender in the shape of Barry Cotter from Shamrock Rovers for an undisclosed fee.

Free agent midfielder Jordan Lyden has signed a short-term deal with Leyton Orient.

Adam Clayton has signed for Bradford City on a free transfer from Doncaster Rovers.

Veteran striker Joe Garner has signed for Carlisle United on a permanent deal rom Fleetwood Town.

Gillingham have paid an undisclosed fee to sign Ethan Coleman from Leyton Orient. They have also brought in Jayden Clarke from non-league side Dulwich Hamlet.

Crewe Alexandra have signed former Liverpool forward David Amoo from Stevenage on a short-term deal. The Railwaymen have also brought in James Beadle from Brighton & Hove Albion and Ryan Finnigan from Southampton, both on loan.

Montpellier have paid around £5m to sign Kiki Kouyate from Ligue 2 side Metz.

Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Theo Corbeanu has moved to Arminia Bielefeld on loan. Also leaving Wolves on loan is summer signing Goncalo Guedes, who has joined Benfica.

Sampdoria have released Brazilian defender Kaique Rocha.

Spezia have paid £1m to sign Raimonds Krollis from Latvian Virsliga side Valmiera.

Angers SCO have loaned Marin Jakolis to AEK Larnaca.

Schalke 04 have taken Michael Frey on loan from Royal Antwerp.

Mirandes have signed Alvaro Sanz on a free transfer from Barcelona.

Osasuna goalkeeper Juan Perez has moved to Huesca on a free transfer.

Bayern Munich have signed veteran Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer from Moenchengladback for around £6m.

Spezia have paid £500,000 for Tio Cipot from NS Mura of the Slovenian Prva Liga.

Valenciennes have taken Stefan Bajic on loan from Bristol City.

Getafe have sent Dario Poveda to Cartagena on loan.

Groningen have taken Mads Bech Sorensen on loan from Brentford.

Barcelona have signed Lucas Roman from Ferro for £1m for their B team Barca Atletic.

Ukrainian left-back Orest Lebedenko has joined Deportivo La Coruna on a free transfer from Lugo.

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out letting Eduardo Camavinga leave the club in January, terming the French midfielder "untouchable".

Injury Round Up

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson, on loan in the Midlands for the season from Manchester United, has been ruled out for a month with a grade two tear in his thigh.

Rangers forward Kemar Roofe is once again out injured, this time for a month with a shoulder injury.

Bolton Wanderers striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has been ruled out of the rest of the season with an ankle injury that requires surgery.

Job Changes

Just two days after sacking Davide Nicola as their head coach, Salernitana have reappointed him as head coach. Bizarre.

Speaking of bizarre, Blackpool have appointed former Republic of Ireland boss Mick McCarthy as their new head coach. McCarthy has been out of work since leaving Cardiff City in October 2021. The 63-year-old has, of course, been joined by longtime assistant Terry 'Clipboard' Connor.

Portsmouth have chosen John Mousinho as their new head coach. The 36-year-old is going into his first head coach role having worked as a player-coach for Oxford United until now. Mousinho, who gained his pro license last year, is also standing down from his position as chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association players' board.

After more than a decade working at Manchester City, their Academy Director Jason Wilcox (who won the Premier League as a player with Blackburn Rovers) has left to become Southampton's new Director of Football. Saints' chairman Henrik Kraft said: "We are so pleased to announce Jason as the new Director of Football at Southampton. His strong track record, not only as a player, but also as a senior football executive makes him the ideal candidate to lead our football department going forwards. Jason was someone who stood out from the start of our search. He is the perfect fit for Southampton, someone who is hardworking, diligent and passionate about improving himself and those around him. At City he has helped develop some fantastic young players and delivered a pathway for them to be able to comfortably adapt into a competitive first-team environment. We are convinced that Jason will continue the great work he has achieved at Man City here at Southampton and look forward to him joining us in the summer."

Everton 'owner' Farhad Moshiri has claimed that the future of Frank Lampard is not his decision, just days after he went on live national radio to claim that the fans had sacked previous managers. Is he once again blaming the fans or is this his admittance that the real moneyman behind his ownership, Alisher Usmanov, is making the decisions.

The President of the New York Yankees Major League Baseball team Randy Levine has joined the board of directors at AC Milan. Levine has a minority stake in Milan as the Yankees invested into the club as minor partners alongside RedBird Capital Partners.

It is being reported, though not yet confirmed, that Brian McBride has lost his job as general manager of the USA men's national team. McBride has been in the role since 2020.

Disciplinary Charges

The Italian football federation (FIGC) has given Juventus an immediate 15-points deduction following its investigation into the club's transfer dealings. The scandal caused the entire board of directors to resign (probably the most blatant admittal of guilt possible) when the investigation was made public. Despite that Juve have given notice of their intention to appeal, probably based on the fact that the FIGC has historically bottled out of all punishments it has handed out and changed them to slap on the wrists when appealed, though the Turin club are, ludicrously, maintaining their innocence. The punishment will drop Juventus from 3rd place down to 10th. There has also been a 30-month ban placed on Juve's former Sporting Director Fabio Paratici, who is currently employed at Tottenham Hotspur's Managing Director of Football. In total 11 former and current executives of Juventus have been sanctioned. Including Pavel Nedved, who has an 8-month ban, former president Andrea Agnelli and former CEO Maurizio Arrivabene have both been hit with 2-year bans. The club's current Sports Director, Federico Cherubini, has received a 16-month ban. The FIGC has requested that all sanctions be extended to UEFA and FIFA, so that the bans would apply worldwide. Juve's main complaint has consisted of asking why it is only them being punished. They are also under investigation from UEFA for breaches of club licensing and financial fair play regulations. Incidentally, the 15 points deducation coincided with a Juventus social media campaign for discounted tickets for the Atalanta game. With the discount of 15% for the tickets, the campaign, which was also on posters, loudly proclaimed -15!

Cardiff City's attempts to claim on insurance for Emiliano Sala have hit a problem after papers filed in the High Court claim that they only tried to insure the Argentine striker the day after he died. Cardiff say that Miller Insurance failed to explain that they needed to notify them promptly of new signings to gain coverage and are seeking more than £10m.

Wigan Athletic have been given a suspended 3-points deduction after admitting to "multiple breaches" of EFL regulations, including 3 cases of late wage payments to players. The EFL now require club owner Abdulrahman Al-Jasmi to keep 125% of the monthly wage bill in a club account until 31st December to ensure there are no further delays in salary payments.

The Football Association has fined both Bolton Wanderers and Plymouth Argyle following an on-pitch fracas between the two sets of players in their recent League One match. Bolton received a £4,500 fine, while Argyle's fine was £2,500.

Dani Alves has been released by Mexican side UNAM Pumas after the former Barcelona star was accused of sexual assault in Spain. The 39-year-old has been remanded in jail in Catalonia over an incident that allegedly happened in a Barcelona discotheque in December 2022. Alves has denied any wrongdoing.

EFL Final Day Moved

The English Football League has moved the final day of its season due to it clashing with the coronation of King Charles III. The final day was set to be Saturday 6th May but it will now take place over two days. League One will now play out its final matches on Sunday 7th May, kicking off at midday BST. League Two and the Championship will complete their season on the following day, which is a Bank Holiday.

PNE Make Further Losses

Despite the return of crowds to stadiums following the pandemic, Preston North End's losses have increased since the previous financial year. The Lilywhites lost £16.8m after tax in the year 2021-22, up from £15.4m the previous year. Hardly a surprise that the club loses money when it has Peter Ridsdale as a director, that does seem to be his main skill, other than ensuring he receives a large lump sum in his bank account just before those clubs go into administration, as he managed to do at Leeds United, Bradford City and Plymouth Argyle in the past. The losses are despite the club owners pumping £14.9m into the club "to cover the annual cash shortfall in running the club".
