FIFA ethics director Michael Garcia has resigned his position just 24 hours after the FIFA Executive Committee rejected his appeal against their summary of his own report into allegations of corruption into the awarding of the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
Garcia spent 2 and a half years conducting the investigation which in full is 430 pages long, however the American lawyers findings were summarized in a 42 page document. Garcia claimed that the summary was not entirely accurate and appealed to FIFA who have rejected his claim.
FIFA have been besieged with claims of bribery and corruption in recent times and President Sepp Blatter is due to stand for re-election next year, with competition from former right hand man Jerome Champagne.
Blatter has been in charge of footballs governing body since 1998 since taking the reigns from Brazilian Joao Havelange but has been under scrutiny over allegations of racism and corruption in the last few years.
FIFA are to vote later this week on whether the Garcia report should be released in full.
