Football News: The Rangers Board Need To Give Managers More Time?
This morning I've been looking things up and comparing Michael Beale's (MB) signings. 🤔🤔 MB brought in a few players who are still actually at the club and one in particular who gets it tight, but also scores goals is Cyriel Dessers. He seems to have the fans split about him, however he's still our best striker at the club and it maybe hard to replace his goals.
MB also brought in Danilo, who could be a top striker, but unfortunately has suffered badly with injuries. We also have Dujon Sterling who everyone thought would be a natural successor to James Tavernier, but again injuries has blighted his career with us.
MB brought Leon Balogun back, who everyone thinks is a great professional and been a solid big defender and he's still here. What about Nicolas Raskin, the player in the middle of the park we all think could be the next natural captain for Rangers. Who could also make the club a good bit of money and one we hope we can keep to help build a team around him.
What about Sima, we brought him in on loan and he turned out to be a cracking player. It's a pity we couldn't afford to try and entice him to stay as he could have been a force in Scotland.
Under MB, we also had Todd Cantwell, who could play when he wanted to, but didn't really like the pressure up here and didn't like the flak from fans. If only he had stayed off social media and done his talking on the park, he may have been a very good player for us and we could have made some money on him further down the line.
With Sam Lammers were we unlucky with him? He was never played in his natural position for whatever reason with ourselves. He's now gone to Twente and scored a few goals for them.
Kieran Dowell for me was never good enough, but we have all said, not all transfers can be a success, so can this one just go down as a transfer that just didn't work out? Similarly, Jose Cifuentes seemed to come with high hopes, but another that just didn't work out at Rangers.
And finally our current number one goal keeper Jack Butland who came in and has done a fair job for us. So when you look closely at all the signings, can we say that MB actually got it more correct than wrong with hindsight?
Now we have to analyse what MB thought they could bring. We can't blame MB with Danilo. He thought he was going to come in and be able to play and if he did, we would actually have a great striker from what we have seen.
With Big Dessers, we have actually had a very good return of goals from him. Nicolas Raskin has turned into a great player. We knew what we were getting with big Balogun and Sima showed that he could be a top player up here.
For as much hatred MB now gets, his signings now, when you look closely, maybe just aren't as bad as first thought?
MB apparently had it his own way and it's a few of his signings we still rely on and some who he thought if they hit the heights they were capable of, would have been good additions, mainly Cantwell and Danilo? He was spot on with Raskin and as I said a great return from Dessers.
When you think about it, could he have improved on his first batch of signings given more time as well?
A better striker than Danilo and Dessers.
A better midfielder than Raskin and Cantwell.
A better keeper than Butland.
Better right back than Sterling.
A better loan deal than Sima.
Better defender than Balogun.
Now, if we look at Philippe Clement (PC) and Nils Koppen's reign so far:
Koppen thought Oscar Cortes would be good, but he's been blighted with injuries and we have barely seen him. What about Kasanwirjo another with a terrible injury and goes back to his own team. Bajarami - 3 plus mullion pounds has a lot of us on the fence with the money spent on him and for me, I've not seen a great deal from him
Robin Propper has a few on the fence and some think was a last minute purchase to cover Goldson leaving. We have Vaclav Cerny on loan and is a similar scenario to Sima. What about Diomande what was it? 4 million or so and he still has a few on the fence?
Igamane looks to be an excellent player still raw and adapting to the game up here along with Nsiala. He's brought in Kelly and Jefte who's defending at times leaves a bit to be desired. We also brought in Connor Barron who is full of energy but seems to have been dropped from the first 11. And we just brought in Fernandes who i need to see what he can do?
Just remember, it took Steven Gerrard as manager (with Mark Allen at the start then Ross Wilson) over 3 years to finally get the team looking right to win the League and when Gerrard left we were 7 points ahead in the League!
And what could have happened if Giovanni van Bronckhorst (GVB) was given more time and money? When you look, GVB might have had possibly the worst window out of them all.
1. Antonio Colak? Away.
2. Rabbi Matondo 🙄.
3. Davies... hmm.
4. Yilmaz only one still here.
Am I missing any?
Maybe the Rangers Board have looked at this and that's why Philippe Clement (PC) will remain and be given more time? As some have said, PC is the more experienced manager and a better all round manager than all the above, so with time he should have a chance?
Only problem we have now is that Celtic are stronger since the Gerrard days and if you ask me and we don't and won't spend the same money now as we did under Gerrard, GVB and MB, so who has everything going against him out of the 4 managers?
Overall, we have all said we can't get all players right first time. But since Gerrard's time to this current moment, who really is doing or did the better manager's job between GVB, MB and PC? and who would you take right now if you could only pick 1 from the 3?
In conclusion, what does this article cry out for? The Rangers Board need to give managers more time?
