Football News: A Glazer-Ineos Alliance Won't Return Manchester United To The Top

A Glazer-Ineos Alliance Won't Return Manchester United To The Top

The prevailing wisdom has been that Ruben Amorim needed a full pre season in order to fully integrate an unfamiliar system and properly prepare the players for the forthcoming season. This was considered extremely difficult having being appointed in November in the midst of a busy fixture ladened campaign.

Evidence of the past 6 months suggests that the majority of players either don't suit the system, or are simply not good enough. Whilst it's easy to conclude that it was difficult for Amorim to work with the players during the season, just by the sheer volume of games played, the players perhaps should have been able to adapt to the system more readily and there should have been more evidence of progression, therefore I think most sensible Manchester United supporters would agree that without significant changes to the playing squad the chances of a successful season are bleak.

Amorim inherited a failing squad and attempted to implement an unfamiliar system not suited to a lot of players. Surely the decision makers understood this when he was appointed and if they didn't at the time, then surely this became even more obvious with each passing week.

As the players return for pre season training, Rashford, Sancho, Garnacho and Antony are still no closer to being sold.

Utd's typical sluggishness in the transfer market and inability to sell players means Amorim's pre season preparations have been made infinitely more complicated. As he is potentially forced to integrate players he clearly dislikes, how can he possibly improve team camaraderie and cohesion? As dissenting players return, free to inflict their mutinous intentions on an already fragile squad, how is Amorim supposed to improve a bunch of players that have just returned the worst two consecutive seasons in premier league history, finishing a dismal 8th and 15th, not to mention a feeble surrender to a pathetic Spurs team in the Europa League final? Perhaps Amorim is the only person at the Club who understands this and at least the mutinous five have been ordered to stay away, for now anyway.

Some fans may argue Ineos inherited such problems from the Glazers, but the uncomfortable truth is the Glazers still own the football Club. Ineos have already made some terrible decisions and it appears they are no better at concluding transfers or selling players than the Glazers, if we can even distinguish between the two.

The fact Amorim is returning to pre season with only one new addition and not one player sold is yet more evidence of incompetence and a compete lack of foresight, urgency and leadership from the decision makers at the Club.

It's hard to see how any manager could succeed in such circumstances. Of course some will argue this post is premature and there is still ample time to buy and sell players, but I've purposely waited to see if any significant business was completed before pre season. Rather predictably the Club have done next to nothing. Maybe Mbeumo arrives in time for the US tour, but there will be be no new CF or GK or CM and the fact that all five problem players have been banished without exists anywhere close to completion, begs the question how is Amorim supposed to navigate his way through the most important pre season of his career, if he can't sign players before sales and it's now very unlikely he'll have any significant new additions available for pre season bar Cunha.

At this stage to expect any kind of improvement would be widely optimistic and with a nightmare opening few fixtures we might not have to wait long for the next crisis to engulf the Club. Will we then see panic acquisitions such as the injury ravaged DCL on a lucrative long term contract?

As usual a complete lack of urgency and appropriate planning will almost certainly see the scrutiny brought to bear on yet another manager because of the incompetence of those charged with running the Club.

Surely Ineos knew the financial situation of the Club, they surely understood the Glazers would not invest any of their own money so how did they think they could improve our position? There is not a single scrap of evidence to suggest any Club can improve their position and return to the top through cuts and efficiently savings. From Jack Walker to Roman Abramovic to Sheikh Mansour the road to success is crystal clear, spend, spend, spend.

Initial excuses complained Utd were restricted by PSR but now it seems the Club has just run out of cash. A Glazer-Ineos alliance will never return Utd to the top. How can it?
