Football News: Manchester United v Liverpool Review
Manchester United v Liverpool Review
What a terrific day, still feeling elated. A few things to take away, only played 2 games, but I think Lammens is now our undisputed No.1 keeper. The speed at which he came out to close down Isak, when he had his one chance, was impressive. He generally has an air of calm assurance, which is impressive for a 23-year-old keeper. Seemingly, there are many who think he will be a world best in years to come.
The decision made by Amorim to play Cunha over Ben was vindicated, he get's criticism for wrong choices so give praise when good choices are made. He thought that given the strength of VvD and Konate aerially that they would dominate Ben and he would become isolated, but playing Cunha meant he could try and move them about. It seemed to work pretty well. Really impressed with work rate of Cunha back defending in our penalty box, effectively, in 83rd minute. Since when do Brazilian attackers do that? That is all about attitude and commitment.
The Mbeumo / Amad partnership on the right hand side is certainly flourishing. Kerkez at right back got torn a new one by both of them, suspect they would like to play against him every week! The more they play together the better they should get and very encouraging for us to see this potential attacking threat. Mbeumo in general been impressive since signing.
Thought Casemiro had good game, very effective. There is talk of him being offered a new contract, on significantly lower wages. Don't think this is a bad idea, if Bruno leaves next summer and possibly Mainoo (hope not), then we will need at least 2 new midfielders. Not the worst idea to have the experience and leadership of Casemiro to help guide them.
Defensively, De Ligt was good, he consistently puts in strong performances, so much for having a refrigerator on his back eh, even Shaw was better. Top credit must go to Harry. Every now and then he puts in a performance of significance and boy did he do so yesterday. Dominated Isak and then that winner and what a winner! He get's much criticism, often justified, but he deserves immense credit for his performance, especially as it was away at the Scousers.
Clearly, we need to use this win as a springboard and not allow standards to drop in the next game. Brighton are certainly no pushovers, and our intensity and commitment must be equally as high at Old Trafford next Saturday.
In the meantime, we should continue to luxuriate in this win for the next day or so, it's been a while coming. Remember, any Scousers you know, you must contact them and give them the same crap we have had to endure for far too long. I'm now going on to MUTV and watch a 20 minutes highlights segment!
