Football News: Hearts look to bring in new striker

Heart of Midlothian boss Robbie Neilson has confirmed the Tynecastle club are looking to sign a striker before their Edinburgh derby match with Hibernian on January 3rd.

Despite the window only opening a couple of days prior to that match, Neilson feels the club might have the time to complete a deal ahead of it.

Neilson said: "Will we have a new striker in for the derby? You never know. We are in the process of trying to get people in and we've made contact with a few players to see what their thoughts are.

"If we do, then great, if we don't, then I'm quite happy to wait until later in the month.

"You need to make sure it's the right person that comes in. If it's the right person on the first of January, then that's great. If it's the right person on the last day of January, then so be it.

"We've got our eye on three or four guys and hopefully we'll get something tied up."

The Scottish Championship leaders are currently suffering something of an injury crisis in the attack, with Osman Sow and Soufian El Hassnaoui certain to miss the derby clash.

There is some good injury news though as Dale Carrick is likely to be fit to face Hibs on Saturday.
