Football News: Convicted rapist Ched Evans offered chance to play for Hibernians.......in Malta

Former Sheffield United striker Ched Evans, a convicted rapist, has been offered the chance to resurrect his career.

Following his recent release from prison, public outcry has foiled his plans to train with the Blades, and seen the collapse of moves to Tranmere Rovers, Oldham Athletic and Hartlepool United.

Now Maltese league leaders Hibernians have made an offer to sign the outcast forward, despite being 15 points clear at the top of their league.

Club vice-president Stephen Vaughan said: "We are looking to secure the services of a top striker and Ched fits the bill.

"We've spoken to his agent and have offered a deal from now until the end of the season."

Evans was the subject of protests when the PFA, the players' union, persuaded them to let him train there.

The club withdrew permission after a backlash from supporters and sponsors, with Olympic gold medallist and famous Blades fan Jessica Ennis-Hill asking for her name to be removed from a stand at Bramall Lane if Evans was signed.

It remains to be seen if Hibernians will suffer any kind of backlash in Malta, or if the signing will be accepted calmly there.
