Loftus-Cheek Would Do Well To Listen

The latest young starlet to be on the verge of a breakthrough at Chelsea, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, has been the subject of a number of warnings over his attitude in the last few weeks. He really needs to listen, no matter how talented he is, he is still just a kid, so he needs to try harder than the rest to prove himself.

Ruben needs to look around the league at how many talents have ended up falling by the wayside because they are not making the effort. Players like Micah Richards, once an England regular and Manchester City stalwart, even when they were spending big money, now scratching round for a contract after a dreadful loan spell with Fiorentina.

So the youngest defender ever to get called up to the England squad will end up signing for Aston Villa, a team that has been struggling against relegation in recent times. Even then, it is only because Tim Sherwood is willing to take a chance on a player known to have a bit of an attitude, or he might well have dropped out of the Premier League for good.

A player like Richards, with his physical attributes and defensive abilities, should never have been in the position where he is being released with no contract on offer. I just hope that acts as a warning for Loftus-Cheek, no matter how good you are, you have to work at your game or you will never achieve what you should.

Loftus-Cheek could go on to have an England side built around him, or he can end up yet another wasted talent scratching around for a contract, hoping someone will take a chance on him. It does not matter if you are naturally talented, there are thousands of kids with talent, if you do not apply that talent you will not make the most of it.
