Cech Confirmed By Blues

Legendary former Chelsea goalie Petr Cech has been confirmed as the new technical and performance advisor at his old club. Cech retired from playing in the summer after 2 years with Arsenal. Cech said: "I feel very privileged to have this opportunity to join Chelsea again and help create the best possible high-level performance environment to continue the success the club has had over the past 15 years. I'm looking forward to the new challenge and hope I can use all of my football knowledge and experience to help the team achieve even more success in the future."

4 Water Breaks Required

The players' union Fifpro has asked for the AFCON matches to have 4 drinks breaks due to the heat in Egypt where the matches will be played. The tournament is planned to have 2 drink breaks, 1 each half, in line with FIFA regulations. Fifpro said: "The health and safety of the players must come first. Any play in temperatures over 34C would mean there is an extremely high risk of thermal injury." Temperatures are expected to reach 40c.

El Nino Retires

World Cup winner Fernando Torres has announced his retirement. The Spanish international was part of the team which won Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012. After starting his career with Atletico Madrid he moved to Liverpool and scored 81 goals in 142 games before a then-British record transfer fee was paid to take him to Chelsea. While he failed to hit the heights of his time with Liverpool, Torres was part of a Champions League winning team with the Blues.
