Injury Round-Up

Hibernian winger Martin Boyle has suffered a recurrence of the knee injury that sidelined him for the second half of last season and is unlikely to play this year. The Australian international will need the surgery he decided against having last time around when he picked up the knee problem on international duty in December. He returned to Hibs' team for pre-season, but suffered the new problem in a Scottish League Cup match with Elgin City.

Bournemouth will be without midfielder Dan Gosling for around 3 months after he underwent surgery on a hip muscle injury. The 29 year old former Everton player suffered the injury in training.

Eric Bailly has suffered yet another injury as the 25 year old tried to return to the side following the knee injury which ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations. The Ivory Coast defender is veering into the injury-prone category after suffering a succession of injuries since signing for Manchester United limited him to just 8 league starts last season. The latest problem was caused after he slipped and twisted his knee and looks set to rule him out for at least 4 months.

Inter Not Keen On Paying More For Lukaku

Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed that the club has made an off to Manchester United for Romelu Lukaku, but that their offer was rejected and they are unlikely to return with a fresh offer. Marotta said: "We made a strong offer, one that is valid and suited to the transfer value of the player and we were unable to conclude a deal. The club is strong, but we need to stay within certain parameters. The club has made big investments and we believe that we're already at a good stage in the process. We are ready to pounce on opportunities, but prices are nowadays very high indeed. We'll continue to monitor the situation and anything can happen on the market."

Bury Chairman Claims They Are All Out To Get Him

Bury's chairman Steve Dale has claimed the English Football League is conspiring against the club, which is why their first game of the season was postponed. The EFL said that Bury failed to supply evidence of their financial viability before the deadline they had set, but Dale disputes that claim. A statement from Dale read: "We, as a club, are saddened by recent events from a body who should have the best interest of clubs as its primary objective, clearly this is not the case. I am unsure at this juncture where Bury go when the body that should be there to help us works against us, however, I felt it important to set the record straight and hope the EFL try to be reasonable. We, as a club, promise you that we will challenge this injustice in whatever forum necessary."

Celtic Want To Keep Sinclair

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has denied rumours he wants rid of Scott Sinclair despite the winger struggling to break into Lennon's first choice XI after he took over from Brendan Rodgers in February. Lennon said: "A player with that experience is always so handy to have around. He's got a great goal record and he's had a great time at Celtic. So we don't want him to go. That's for sure."

Chelsea Give Fan Life Ban

A fan who used "racially abusive language" towards Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has been banned for life by Chelsea. Five other supporters have been temporarily suspended for their actions during a match at Stamford Bridge in December 2018. A police investigation found insufficient evidence for a criminal charge but Chelsea said: "While the club respects the decision of the CPS, the question it had to determine was not whether a criminal offence had been committed, but rather whether the individual acted in breach of the ticketing terms and conditions. All individuals sanctioned as a result of our investigation were then offered the right to appeal and, where applicable, those appeals have been heard."

Ronaldinho In Tax Trouble

Former Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho, who played for both Barcelona and PSG in a glittering career, has had 57 properties and both his Brazilian and Spanish passports seized due to unpaid taxes and fines. Among his debts are a fine for over £2m for illegally building a pier at his lake house in the city of Porto Alegre and over £1.5m in other debts which creditors are attempting to recover. Ronaldinho won the World Cup in 2002 and charges around £150,000 for a single Instagram post promoting products. The captain of the 2002 team, legendary full back Cafu, is also facing similar problems and has had a number of properties seized recently.

Brizzle Confirm Webster Bids

As speculation mounts that Bristol City defender Adam Webster is to replace Harry Maguire at Leicester City, City's manager Lee Johnson has confirmed that there have been several bids for the 24 year old centre back. Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol: "Once big moves start happening, you wouldn't believe the domino effect that has on all the rest of us. I expect there to be stories from Ashton Gate, both ins and outs. Webby has done fantastically well, but the market is the market. The value of the player, given a lot of the stuff that goes on in the domino effect, is always there. Nobody is unsellable, but at the same time you have got to be ready, and I won't recommend that we move anybody on if we don't feel like we have a succession plan. I'm probably not quite as confident [of keeping Webster] as I was but that's mainly due to the sheer level of interest, and it's not just in Webby."

Fans Sue Juve Over Ronaldo Benching

South Korean fans ire over Cristiano Ronaldo's no show in a pre-season friendly against a K League All Stars team in Korea has shown no sign of abating. The organisers have claimed that Ronaldo was contracted to play 45 minutes of the match in South Korea but he instead stayed on the substitutes bench throughout the match. Angry fans began chanting the name of Lionel Messi during the game in protest and some have now filed a lawsuit wiht a Seoul law firm in an attempt to claim their ticket money back and compensation for "mental anguish". A lawyer from Myungan, the firm handling the law suit, told Reuters: "Normally in such cases the plaintiffs will be refunded the price of the tickets, but I put this under a special case since the company, through false advertising, took advantage of the football star's fans. As for the mental anguish part, I'd like to say some of them are raucous fans, the real avid fans. So for them it is very painful because they love Ronaldo and want to protect him, but they can't, given the situation." Sometimes do you not just think some people deserve to lose their money for being so utterly stupid? Perhaps it is just me but anyone claiming mental anguish just seems in dire need of being returned to reality.
