Review of the Day

Contracts

Schalke 04 have handed Amine Harit a 4 and a half year deal.

Belgian goalkeeper Koen Casteels has also signed a 4 and a half year deal, but with fellow Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.

French midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud has signed a 3 and a half year contract with Stade Rennais.

Transfers

LA Galaxy have picked up veteran attacker Sacha Kljestan from Orlando City on a free.

San Jose Earthquakes have paid a club record fee to sign Argentine winger Cristian Espinoza from Villareal.

Injury Round-Up

Jesse Lingard is a doubt for Manchester United's Europa League group game with AZ Alkmaar. The midfielder picked up a knock in United's 2-1 victory over local rivals Manchester City at the weekend.

Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney has picked up a dislocated shoulder after falling awkwardly in the win over West Ham United on Monday night.

Newcastle United's flying winger is to be on the sidelines for a month with the hamstring injury he suffered against Southampton on Sunday.

Bayern Munich's French winger Kingsley Coman has suffered what looked a serious knee injury in the German sides win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League.

HMRC Lose Oldham Case

HM Revenue & Customs winding up claim against Oldham Athletic has been dismissed by the High Court as it has been partially paid by the Latics. Oldham are currently involved in a dispute with their own fans, who are unhappy with the owner, Moroccan football agent Abdallah Lemsegam and 300 of them staged a protest before their game at the weekend.

O'Toole Banned

League One Burton Albion will be without John-Joe O'Toole for 2 matches after the 31 year old was banned. O'Toole admitted a charge of "using abusive and/or insulting and/or improper words" toward the referee, Darren Drysdale, after Burton's 1-1 draw with Southend United in the league on 3rd December. O'Toole had been sent off in the first half after an altercation with Southend's Tom Hopper.

Robinson Charged

Former MK Dons boss Karl Robinson, now managing Oxford United, has been charged with using abusive language to a match official. The charge relates to an incident in their 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury Town on Saturday when, according to the FA, he used language which was "was threatening and/or abusive and/or insulting and/or improper".

Trio Hit With FA Charges

Ipswich Town and Coventry City have both been charged by the FA for an altercation in the 57th minute of their League One match on Saturday. An off-the-ball incident involving Ipswich's Gwion Edwards and Coventry's Sam McCallum led to a scuffle involving players of both sides and substitutes who were warming up. Both clubs are accused of failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion. Fulham have also been charged with the same offence over their penalty protests in the 93rd minute of a defeat to Bristol City on Saturday.

HMRC Lose Another Winding Up Case

In a bad day in court for HMRC, they also saw their winding up order against Birmingham City dismissed by a High Court judge. The case had been put forward with the claim that the Blues owed back taxes but HMRC's lawyers have told the court that the debt has now been cleared.

Ibe Faces Trial

Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe is to face trial accused of crashing his Bentley into a coffee shop and then driving off without stopping on 30 July in London. Ibe, a £15m signing for Bournemouth in 2016, denied failing to stop but entered no plea to a charge of careless driving. The prosecutor said: "The defendant has been involved in a collision - his vehicle has left the road, collided with a parked car and crashed into a shop front. The vehicle remained for a short period before driving off." The defence attorney claimed he waited for a "reasonable length of time".

Gattuso Gets Carlo's Job

As was widely expected, Gennaro Gattuso has replaced Carlo Ancelotti as the head coach of Napoli. Gattuso, who played under Ancelotti in the past, has previous experience as a manager with AC Milan. Napoli are currently 7th in Serie A.

Lyon Players Clash With Lyon Fans

Olympique Lyonnaise's Brazilian centre-back Marcelo has been at the centre of a storm following Lyon's comeback from 2 down to draw with RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday night. After the final whistle a Lyon supporter ran onto the pitch with a banner branding the Brazilian a 'donkey' and telling him to get lost. Team captain Memphis Depay ran half the length of the pitch to try and grab the banner, which led to a scuffle with him and other Lyon ultras, leading to claims from Depay that he was spat on. This is not the first time Lyon fans have targeted Marcelo, but the player is likely to be sanctioned by the club after he responded to the banner with an obscene gesture, aiming the middle finger of both hands to the crowd. Depay has asked the club to take action against the fans saying: "The management will have to take responsibility. You qualify and you leave the pitch in these conditions? Something is wrong. I chased the fan to tell him to drop the banner. They spat on us. I've never seen that. Look in my eyes. I'm upset, angry. I don't know what to say. You know how hard it is for the team when we know that somebody on our team has troubles with the supporters? What do you expect from us? You go to the supporters and thank them and they say crazy, crazy things about somebody's family, somebody's kids. I have no words. It doesn't make sense. It's very, very difficult to keep myself calm. You can see on the camera, they [some of the fans] spit on us. What can I say? I've never seen something like this." The problems between Marcelo and the ultras began when he objected to the players being berated at Lisbon airport as they were waiting for their plane home after a defeat to Benfica in October. Since then one particular group of ultra, "Bad Gones", has targeted him repeatedly.
