Contracts
Transfers
Preston North End have been given permission to replace Connor Wickham in their Championship squad with Joe Rafferty. Wickham picked up a serious hamstring injury and so Preston were allowed to add Rafferty, who was at the club but left out of the original 25-man squad.
Injury Round-Up
Shrewsbury Town striker Ryan Bowman had to be taken off on Saturday and taken to hospital after the 29-year-old had heart palpitations.
Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has picked up an injury playing for France and had to be substituted in the 43rd minute of their Nations League match against Spain.
Blackpool's captain and goalkeeper Chris Maxwell has torn his quadricep during the win against Blackburn Rovers and will be out for a while.
Managerial Changes
Chris Beech has left as head coach of Carlisle United after nearly 2 years in charge at Brunton Park.
Leon Britton has returned to Swansea City as a player mentor for the Under-23 squad. The 39-year-old is expected to also play in some of their games to help coach the youngsters through it.
Disciplinary Charges
Doncaster Rovers manager Richie Wellens has been handed a two-game touchline ban.
Sutton United and Carlisle United have been fined £1,000 each by the Football Association for failing to control their players in the match between them last month.
Morecambe boss Stephen Robinson has been fined £1,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct.
Derby County have appealed against the 12-point deducation they were given as an automatic punishment for entering administration. Derby are arguing that the financial impact of the pandemic caused it, despite no other club in the English Football League having to do so. Personally I would have thought the obscene wages they were paying to journeyman pros was more of a problem. For some reason, instead of being laughed out of the meeting, Derby's appeal has been referred to an independent arbitration panel.
Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy has once again had his request for bail refused ahead of his trial on multiple counts of rape and sexual assault. It is the third time bail has been rejected for the 27-year-old.
Courtois Hits Out At UEFA
Multi-millionaire Real Madrid footballer Thibaut Courtois has his out at UEFA for prioritising money over the welfare of players, though singularly forgetting to point out that most of the money goes to pay the wages of those players. Courtois said: "This game is just a money game, we have to be honest about it. We just play it because for Uefa it is extra money and it is an extra game on TV. OK, for us it's a good game because it's against Italy and for Italy it's a good game because it's against Belgium, but look how much both teams changed their players - if we had both been in the final there would have been others playing. This just shows that we play too many games. Next year we have a World Cup in November, we maybe have to play until the latter stages of June again. We will get injured and nobody cares about the players anymore. After a long season we will have to play four games in the Nations League again, we will have two weeks' holiday and that's not enough for players to be able to continue playing 12 months at the highest level. If we never say anything it will always be the same. They (Uefa) can be angry about other teams making a Super League but they don't care about the players, they just care about their pockets. You hear that they want to put a European Championships and a World Cup every year. When will we get a rest? Never. So in the end top players will get injured all the time and that's the end of it. It's something that should be much better and better taken care of. We're not robots."
