Football News: USL Pro to apply for division 2 status

The USL Pro division is clearly benefiting from its close relationship with the MLS, to the point they are now looking to move up a step in the US soccer pyramid.

Currently the MLS is the top of the pyramid, with the NASL as the division two league.

With the NASL being a clear rival to the MLS and the MLS having a close relationship with the USL Pro, any raise in status to the USL Pro would be a major threat to the NASL's status.

The MLS require all MLS team's to either own or partner with a USL Pro team, meaning that a rise to division two status would rule out any possibility of promotion and relegation in the future.
