Review of the Day

Contracts

American right-back Brooks Lennon has agreed a 3-year contract with Major League Soccer side Atlanta United.

Transfers

In the MLS there were two transfers. Orlando City paid £400,000 for Toronto full-back Luca Petrasso. Nashville paid £250,000 for Fafa Picault from Houston Dynamo.

Injury Round Up

Chelsea right-back Reece James is out of the England squad due to his knee injury suffered on 11th October: "The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight. But I always felt it was possible. I've worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believed I could help the team. I appreciate there was a risk on both sides, but it was one I was willing to take. Good luck to the boys. I'll be back soon. Stay safe and sending love."

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has told South Korean fans that he will be fit to play in the World Cup: "I won't miss this for the world. I can't wait to represent our beautiful country. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you all for the messages of support I have received over the last week. I have read so many of them and truly, truly appreciate you all. In a tough time I received a lot of strength from you! Playing for your country at the World Cup is the dream of so many children growing up, just as it was one of mine too." Son fractured an eye socket on 1st November.

Wigan Athletic defender Jason Kerr's season is over after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Leicester City full-back James Justin has ruptured an Achilles tendon. The 24-year-old will be out for the rest of the season after having an operation to repair it.

Job Changes

Former Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis is to step down from the role of AC Milan CEO next month. The South African had been with the Serie A side since 2018. RedBird, the American investment group took over Milan at the start of the season.

Bristol City have appointed Brian Tinnion as their new Technical Director. Tinnion has previously been a player and manager at Bristol, and was currently working as the club's academy director, a role he will continue to fulfil alongside his new job.

Southampton have appointed Nathan Jones as the new first team manager. Jones will be leaving his role as manager of Luton Town in the Championship to take up the new position on a 3 and a half year contract.

Wigan Athletic have sacked Leam Richardson following 6 defeats in their last 7 games dropped them into the relegation zone in the Championship. Richardson only signed a new 3-year deal on the 25th October, in a shocking display of mismanagement from the club. Such a strange way to treat a manager who kept the club in League One while they were in administration and took them to promotion last season. He was also a hero to many after helping to save the life of their forward Charlie Wyke when he suffered a heart attack in training, by treating him until the club doctor could get there.

Disciplinary Charges

Germany and Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka has hit out at the comments made by Qatar World Cup ambassador Khalid Salman. Salman referred to homosexuality as "damage in the mind". During Bayern's 6-1 win over Werder Bremen fans held up a banner protesting against the comments and after the game Goretzka told the media: "It's very oppressive. This is an image of a man that comes from another millennium. It leaves you speechless that something like this can be said by a World Cup ambassador shortly before a World Cup."

The Football Association have fined Manchester United £82,000 for the conduct of their players in the games against Newcastle United and Chelsea. They were fined £42,000 and £37,000 respectively.

FIFA have rejected a request from Denmark to wear training shirts with the words "Human Rights For All" written across the front of them. Apparently humans having rights is a political message, rather than simply stating how the world should be. The Danish Football Federation director Jakob Jensen said: "For me, this is a jersey with a very simple message about universal human rights. We don't think there's any politics in it. We think that the human rights are universal, and we stand by this view. Fifa had a different assessment and sadly we had to take that into consideration." Denmark will still wear toned down shirts to play in - see picture.

Argies To Leave Out Players

Argentina's manager Lionel Scaloni has been asking clubs not to field players who are not at 100% fitness in the final weekend of matches before the World Cup. Scaloni said: "We are talking to the clubs so that players who are not at 100% do not play their match. We have been working to see if they can release them, but it's difficult. There will be some players who, as a precaution, will not play the last few games, but we know that they are fine and that it is a decision thinking more about what's coming than anything else."

Rangers Announce Profit

Rangers have reported an operating profit of £5.9m for the financial year ending in June. The previous year's accounts revealed a £23.5m operating loss. Turnover was nearly £87m, with the sale of Nathan Patterson to Everton giving the SPFL club £11.5m. The club also received compensation for the loss of Steven Gerrard to Aston Villa. There were also "some one-off items" which took total liabilities to £12.4m, from £5.4m the previous year. Settlement of litigation contributed to "£6.1m in non-recurring costs".
