Celtic will be heading to Gran Canaria next month to take part in the 30th annual Maspalomas Cup.

Ronny Deila's Bhoys will play against Dutch giants, and current Eredivisie leaders, PSV Eindhoven and the reigning Czech champions Sparta Prague

The match between Celtic and St Johnstone scheduled for 10 January has been postponed following Celtic's decision to invoke their right to have a one-game break.

Ronny Deila is taking a leaf out of previous boss Neil Lennon's book by taking his team to foreign climes to play a couple of matches after agreeing a break, after postponing a game against Kilmarnock last year the Celts jetted out to Turkey to play in the Antalya Winter Cup against Trabzonspor and Galatasaray.

Celtic said in a statement "Premiership clubs are permitted to request one fixture postponement at the beginning of the season, and one in January."

"Ronny Deila's side will have played 35 competitive games by the time they've faced Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on 5 January and the Celtic manager wants to take the opportunity for his side to have a short mid-season break and training camp before resuming their quest for silverware in the remaining months of the season."

Now Scott Brown and co will be relaxing and soaking up the sunshine between playing the Dutch and Czechs in the Maspalomas tournament.

The Hoops kick-off the three-team mini-league tournament on Saturday January 10th against PSV, with an 11.15 a.m. kick-off time and then play Sparta three days later, Tuesday 13th, 3 p.m. while the Dutch side face the Czechs on Sunday the 11th.

The cancellation of the St Johnstone game now means Celtic will not play any domestic football between their trip to Kilmarnock on 5th January and their trip to face Hamilton on 17th January.
