Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Valencia left back Aly Cissokho.Liverpool have agreed a season long loan deal with Valencia for the French international with Liverpool believed to have the option to purchase him outright from Valencia at the end of his loan spell for around €3-5 million Euros.

The former Lyon player has failed to make an impact at the Mestalla with Andreas Guardado being preferred to him at left back. The player will likely provide back up to Liverpool's first choice left back Jose Enrique.Cissokho signed for Valencia from Lyon last summer however after failing to establish himself as Valencia's first choice left back he has seeked a move away from the club.

Cissokho can also play in a left midfield role which is also likely to be a key factor for Liverpool in a possible deal for the 24 year old with Liverpool needing cover for the left midfield position. The French full back was one of the most highly rated full backs in the whole of Europe while at Lyon and his signing will be seen as a good one by the Liverpool faithful.

The rumours of an imminent arrival of the full back at Liverpool where intensified earlier when Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers stated his desire to sign a left back this summer stating "There are obviously certain areas of the squad where we're a bit thinner than others," he said."We probably need a bit more support - that extra bit of quality - at the top end of the field and that's something we'll look out for."That'll be mixed with needing cover in the left-back position - that's something we're looking at. It's not really about numbers, it's about quality."If we can do that over the next number of weeks we'll be happy."
